Let's not kid ourselves that this is Estrada at his best... But it's still a greatly improved showing from Tenshin.

El Gallo didn't seem that worse for wear. He wast just outfought.

 

Tenshin looked pretty good here but I don't see a Takuma rematch going any different.

 

If Tenshin continues boxing like this he will almost certainly win a world title down the road.

 

It's never nice to see a great fighter become a shadow of his former self, as Estrada is today. I hope the Mexican retires now and enjoys life.

 

Fight was competitive enough where a settled down more disciplined Tenshin has a very good shot at winning.

 

I really hope two things.

1. El Gallo stops fighting. I don't want to see him get to the point of how Nonito Donaire sadly looks now.
2. Bam Rodriguez could make good money going to Japan to fight Nasukawa. Hears to hoping he gets the opportunity to beat Tenshin up.

 

I don't think he was ever a bad guy. I believe there was pressure on him to continue fighting like that. He is a superstar in Japan and money talks. His coaches obviously had a stern talking to him after the Inoue fight though.

 

Pretty disappointing night of fights. Was excited to see Tomoya Tsuboi fight, but that didn't really happen...

Then, Estrada just didn't have anything left. Also, Tenshin just rubs me the wrong way.

He gets tons of love here in Japan compared to the top Japanese boxers while mostly just being highly athletic with a solid chin. Not much power and pretty uninteresting skills-wise.

Oh well... Hoping for a Tenshin / Bam matchup now.

 

I feel really sad for Juan Francisco Estrada. Without the head clashes, I feel like the fight would have been different. On the other hand, from round 5 onward, Tenshin clearly had the upper hand with his hand speed, stamina, and especially his high-volume punching. Estrada was relying a lot on counters and creating openings to land his right hand. Tenshin Nasukawa is proving that he’s a top 10 bantamweight-level fighter.

I’m really sad—this truly feels like the end of the era of the “Four Kings” of the super flyweight division. What should Estrada do now? Retire? Or move up to bantamweight for a fourth fight against Chocolatito, or maybe a third fight against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at 118 lbs? That would be wonderful.

I also think Kazuto Ioka has aged better than Estrada and Nonito Donaire at 118 pounds, and I believe he’s going to beat Takuma Inoue on May 2 quite convincingly.

One thing is certain: 4–5 years ago, Estrada, Chocolatito, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Carlos Cuadras would have definitely beaten Tenshin Nasukawa (100%).

 

Nasukawa is talented and showed improvement. Happy for him, but sad to see a great career come to its end point, at least at the level we're accustomed to seeing him perform at. Nothing to be ashamed of though - was a legitimately great fighter, left a mark on the lower weight classes, and had a run to be proud of. I'd like to see him hang it up.
