He's not beating Leonard at 154 or 160 too mobile and fast. And he's certainly not beating Hagler at 160 who's simply too tough see the McCallum fight. Jackson would have a punchers chance vs Hearns. At 154 less likely because Hearns was the GOAT H2H at 154. At 160 Hearns was a bit more vulnerable so Jackson has a better chance of causing the upset. But the majority of the time Hearns would bomb Jackson out of there early. Duran gives me some pause TBH. Duran I think should be too tricky and elusive on the inside for Jackson. But Jackson has some considerable size and reach over Duran. And Jackson has that Hearns type power and we all see what Hearns did to Duran. I know Duran beat Barkley who was a big guy. But Barkley doesn't hit as hard as Jackson and he's technique isn't as a good as Jackson either who's a very sharp straight puncher. The Duran fight I believe is Jackson's best chance of a win out of all of the FAB 4. Simply because he has a considerable size advantage over Duran.
I don't like the thought of Tommy going in with Jackson tbh. Unless Hearns stuck to simply trying to out box him with that long jab, that could maybe win him it. But I think he'd try and bomb Jackson out, could potentially end in tears for Tommy.
I think he knocks out Duran. It's not just the power but the speed. He has a punchers chance against Leonard and Hearns. If he can catch a defensive wizard like Bomber Graham he can catch Leonard and Hearns. Hagler would have a 98% chance of winning.
Hagler at his peak would do a Sibson type job and bust him and stop him in 6. No scenario has Jackson winning or even lasting the distance unless he does a Bonecrusher Smith-Tyson huggathon. Leonard is too fast, great chin, better puncher than given credit for and a terrific tactician. Surprised if Julian reaches the 10th round. Hearns was terrific at light-middle, almost perfect fighting machine. Jackson´s only chance was a one punch win because he´s going to outboxed, hurt and stopped early. 9 times out of ten it´s going to be Hearns standing over Julian but there´s always a chance Jackson lands a Norris/Graham punch. I agree with McCallumsJab in that Jackson´s speed could be the key to beating Duran. If Hands of Stone does survive the early rounds and establishes a good body attack (like versus Davey Moore) he might have a chance of wearing Julian out. Still my money is on Jackson, his ability to land punches nobody sees is quite incredible.
The speed of delivery of Jackson's punch was astonishing. I would never count a prime 154 Jackson out of any fight. Outboxing seemed to be risky, giving him too long to have the chance to land that one punch. It's safer to try to extinguish him early.
Hearns is in real potential danger against Jackson similar to his first fight with Barkley, Jackson only needs to get lucky once b ut so does Hearns. I lean towards a Hearns victory but Jackson has a big chance here. Leonard is most likely to be too slick for Jackson. Hagler could indeed by=e caught although he'd probably survive Jackson's power was unreal and even Marvin could be concussed. Duran was prolaxed by Hearns who was bigger and faster than Jackson and at times Jackson swung rather wildly next to someone like Hearns so I don't see Jackson winning.
Hagler and Leonard beats Jackson comprehensively. I give Jackson a slim chance against Hearns since there's always a possibility of a dynamite right hand that puts him out but he'll also be at risk of getting outboxed and knocked out himself. Duran is the only fighter that Jackson has the best chance mainly due to his size advantage but I still see Duran being able to use his guile to beat him if he fights carefully.
The thing that makes punchers of Jacksons caliber so special is that they have a chance of winning any fight because they have the type of power to put someones lights out with one shot. So Hagler I would say he would be a 95% favorite but that 5% but you can never make anyone a 100% over Jackson because of that power.
He isn't beating Hagler. Marvin would take it to him and make him fight and beat him with his better skills and his own power, much like McCallum did. And he isn't going to one shot Hagler; nothing is impossible but some things are very close to it. Hearns, at 154 Minchillo and Medal went rounds with him; he got Duran but Tommy was having problems with his right hand then. He certainly had the jab to outbox Jackson at that weight but Jackson present problems that Benitez did not; he isn't as passive and he would be looking to stop Hearns. At 160 you have to favor Hearns but you can't forget the Barkley fight. Could Jackson take what Barkley did? Would he have to because Barkley was really working Hearns to the body. Leonard can be seen a few ways, I guess. At 154 he beat Kalule. Coming out of the Duran loss and looking to fight Hearns he had something to prove and that was a high point in his career, leading to his highest point against Hearns. But he also struggled with Kevin Howard at that weight. The hungry guy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove beats Jackson, the guy that fought Howard loses in a way that would make Ray fondly recall his fight with Terry Norris. At 160 he came off a 3 year layoff and beat a shopworn Hagler. Maybe he would beat Jackson, too, but I don't think that such is a given conclusion. Duran wasn't really a star at 154, was he? Lost to Laing, Hearns and Benitez, beat Minchillo, Nino Gonzalez and Moore. At 160 he did well against Hagler but lost to Robbie Sims, beat Barkley. At either weight I suppose he could give Jackson a boxing lesson but he could also get flattened.
Very unlikely. Baring a sucker punch he has no chance. Jackson hit very hard but was a limited fighter apart from that. The hammering he took for Mike McCallum would be repeated.
In my opinion the one Jackson would have had a better chance against was Duran. The Hawk was bigger than Duran, taller and had greater reach, as well as more power. For me he would have been favored against Manos de Piedra, who was weaker than Jackson at super welterweight and middleweight. Against the other three I think Jackson would have lost. Leonard's footwork and quick combinations would have been too much for him. The same goes for Hearns's greater reach, speed, footwork and punches from different angles. Hagler had the jaw, power and technical completeness to destroy Jackson, see the fight with Hearns.
