Jones was robbed of a GOLD MEDAL at the Olympics the highest an amateur boxer can hope to achieve. Tarver was still boxing amateur as Roy was winning multiple WORLD TITLES.

 

Antonio Tarver- 158-8/158- 12 depends on who you ask. Was an amateur for 15 years.
Roy Jones- 121-13 was an amateur for 9 years. He beat future world champions Woodhall, Liles, and Mccllean in the amateurs . Such a bad amateur career lol.

 

A great amateur career, but a worse one than Tarver (Roy's dad) had. And you're being disingenous here. Even you know that Tarver was a terror in the ams for a few years in the mid 90s. It wasn't exactly an even spread over 15 years.

 

The World Championships is the same thing with the same fighters competing.

 

THE GOLD MEDAL is what every USA boxer aspires to win because it was a huge impact when turning pro so stop with the BS. The World Championships are NOT the same as the Olympics and its not even close.

Gold at Pan Am and World Championships and bronze ar Olympics is better than one Gold at the Olympics, easily.

 

Gold means you are the best in the WORLD GENIUS at that given time. The Olympics took place back then every FOUR YEARS and it was the worlds absolute best vs one another.
The World Championships were every two years.People remember Gold medalist.

 

Tarver was the best in the world from 95 until he lost to Jirov. Not thinking the world ranking changes when a guy wins the World Championships is hilarious.

 

That wasn't the question was it ? The Olympics have a much broader following WORLDWIDE therefore a much larger audience .
The guy was an amateur for 15 years in his late twenties when the other was winning world titles and fighting future legends Hopkins and Toney.
One was a natural light heavy the other wasn't and he still LOST to the one who was weight classes above his best fighting weight.
One was considered pound for pound the best boxer on the planet and one was never considered that.
One went unbeaten for almost EIGHT YEARS the other couldn't even manage that for THREE YEARS.
Tarver is not and never was on the level of a Roy Jones.

 

Roy was a domestic level guy who performed well at the Olympics.

Tarver was the best in the world and known worldwide before even fighting in the Olympics and has the accolades to prove it, which Roy doesn’t.

Domestic level but somehow represents the United States in the Olympics ? You do know that Roy fought in the GOODWILL GAMES which was held in MOSCOW ??

 

And then he went straight back to fighting in Nebraska. Lol at comparing the GOODWILL GAMES to the World Championshsips or even Pan Am.

 

It means he fought INTERNATIONAL genius. And you having never boxed of course fail to realize that in order to do that you have to be a pretty good amateur to have them fly you over to another COUNTRY.
The man won an Olympic Gold Medal and the other despite having been an amateur for a 100 years couldn't even manage to reach the finals of the Olympics.
These two are not even the top amateurs that America has produced and that should tell you all you need to know because the amateurs really don't mean too much in the pros other then getting paid when turning pro and that was tied in on how you did at the Olympics.
The Olympics are considered the holy grail of amateur boxing especially back then so deal with it.
Your man fought for 100 years managed to make ONE Olympic team and then flopped under the lights deal with it.
