Yeah, Wardley is most probably a bigger puncher than both Lyle and Foreman. Good chin as well, like you mentioned. Wardley's quicker too.

You disparage George Foreman for losing to Jimmy young, a defensive wizard who was one of the best top contenders in the 70s, yet ignore the fact fury had much worse moments.
Foreman didn’t prepare properly for young Either, or do excuses only apply for fury?
No it was a professional bout, it’s on his record.
tyson fury went on to give uysk two competitive matches afterwards. Don’t act like he was anywhere near as shot as Ali was. Besides, Francis himself was 38 years old coming off a two year layoff and knee surgery.
That doesn’t matter. There’s a lot more to succeeding in mma than being a good boxer. The guy wasn’t even a skilled boxer by ufc standards. Watch his bout against rozenstruik to see what I’m talking about.
he got effortlessly destroyed by Anthony Joshua in 2 rounds. The fact he did better against fury than Mahkmudov shows how awful the division is these days.

Stylistically he's a problem for George, especially in the first half of Foremans career. I don't think Foremans wild swings would consistently hard for Fury to nullify. I think older Foreman is much more of an issue for Fury although I would still slightly favour Fury.

Also, Ali didn't outbox Foreman. So the OP using an old Ali as an example that Fury would outbox Foreman is not an accurate comparison. Wilder put Fury down multiple times almost knocking him out. Foreman does everything better than Willder and has a higher ring IQ. Fury could win, but it wouldn't be easy. I'd favor a prime Foreman.

I agree with a lot that you say. I don't agree with your take on Fury in the Ngannou fight.

Fury was the WBC belt holder, unbeaten, an active HW, although out of the ring for nearly a year, a lifetimes experience of boxing, and you know boxing, nobody can come off the couch and box 10 rounds without some training.

You could say Fury has off nights, you could say Fury overlooked Ngannou. You can use any excuse, but at the end of the day Fury absolutely struggled with Ngannou who was fighting his boxing debut.

Fury has never beaten anyone as good as George Foreman, based on that we can't say that Fury does win with any certainty.

And we're back to this nonsense. As if guys on Makhmudov's level haven't populated the ranks of the HW division since time immemorial. There are Top 10 ATGs who spent 80% of their careers beating up guys on Makhmudov's level.

I don't have an opinion on some mythical prime Fury beating some mythical prime Foreman or not. My point is people still can't help but mythologize these fighters of the past. They've literally been turned into comic book superheroes in people's minds.

Foreman was just a dude. Hard puncher. Physically more imposing than the guys of his era (when he was young). Not all that bright back then because he got completely bamboozled and embarrassed by Ali. Neither Fury or Usyk would ever have been dumb enough to fall into that rope a dope nonsense. Also nowhere near as mentally tough and prepared as someone as say, Usyk, if he was too lazy to prepare correctly to fight a defensive wizard like Jimmy Young in the heat of PR. Yet we're supposed to believe no one of the modern era could possibly stand a chance of beating this guy? That's absolute drivel.

I think we can both agree that was Foreman was not at his best as well as Jimmy Young also getting robbed against Ali,a journeyman who should have two wins over two bonafide ATG .

Lyle like Foreman did a jail sentence and learned to box in prison but Lyle due to a longer jail sentence did not even have his first pro fight until April 23rd 1971 when he was already 30 years old, what could he have achieved if he had gone pro earlier in life ! As for Itauma at some point Foreman is going to land something and that would tell us more than we even know now about Itauma . Like I mentioned in my first post these H2H match ups are just people’s personal opinions .

I actually think Young was pretty good for 3 or 4 years.

If you look at his form between 1974-1977 his only losses were highly controversial decisions to Norton, Ali.

During that period he got a draw vs Shavers and from the reports it seems to suggest Young deserved the nod.

    Schooling Lyle twice.

    Beat Foreman well on points.

And of course as I mentioned above highly disputed losses to Norton, Ali. And seeing how Norton pushed Holmes all the way in his next fight that's a very credible performance from Young.

Fury's footwork, handspeed, movement and workrate would see him comprehensively outbox Foreman. Foreman probably puts him down once or twice, they Fury adjusts and keeps outboxing Foreman.

Usyk clearly the best of this era but has only fought 5 different fighters his whole Heavyweight career,Usyk may well beat Foreman but he’s not embarrassing him imo. Thing is it’s another mythical match up,which are popular on here, truth is nobody knows 100% what would have happened if they fought .
