Are there any Heavyweights from different eras that you would favor Bob Foster to beat?

Bob Foster pretty much had zero success at HW mainly because he had the misfortune to go up against two of the greatest HWs from that era. But fighters like Spinks and Moorer have shown that a 175 fighter can do well at HW and manage to beat some notable HWs. Are there any HWs from any era that you would actually give Bob Foster a decent chance against?

It wasn't just Ali and Frazier that Foster lost to though.

He lost to Doug Jones, Ernie Terrell, Zora Folley, in pretty convincing fashion.

Honestly I think Foster is overrated.

He won the Light Heavyweight title off a former Middleweight who he towered over.

There was no real upper echelon Light Heavyweights during Foster's era. And he ruled in a era of a pretty unremarkable Light Heavyweight division.

I think Foster whilst being a significant H2H threat based on his size and power.

Is a bit lucky he didn't come along a few years later when the Light Heavyweight division really had some killers like Marvin Johnson, Matthew Saad Muhammad, John Conteh, etc.

Then you really would've seen how good Foster was.

Spinks and Moorer were trained in the modern era to put on solid muscle while gaining significant pounds. They were 200 or over when they fought. Bob Foster like past LH champs came in over the limit by a small amount and tried to challenge. Couldn’t do it against 60s heavies Terrell Folley Jones and even if he had bulked up well might still not have been able to do it against Frazier and Ali they were too good. He was outweighed by over 20 lbs by Joe and over 41 by Ali who toyed with him like a cat with a mouse.
The 188 lbs Foster like for Frazier wouldn’t even be outweighed by many of the champs before Louis. He could beat most of those guys he was 6 3 1/2 could hit really hard was fast and had skills.

Yeah but to be fair he never really bulked up to Heavy he would come in anywhere from a few pounds over to 190

You think a guy like Bert Cooper could be someone that Foster would be able to hold his own against? I would think that even Cooper could pose a danger to Foster if he started fast from the opening bell.

If we're talking champions I'd give Foster a decent chance against similar sized HWs, so Dempsey, Tunney, Ezzard Charles, Braddock and maybe Jack Johnson and Walcott. He should outbox Langford as long as that one goes.

There's allot wrong with this. For 1 many considered Doug Jones robbed against Casius Clay. Foster also lost to Doug Jones in his first year as a pro.

Folley was the boxer with the best resume in the 50s/60s to not win a title

Terrell was huge and cleared out the division in the 60s, with every contender not named Ali/Liston/Patterson

Firstly no one considers Ali/Jones to be a robbery that is simply untrue.

Its considered a competitive but clear decision win for Ali in the region of 6-4.

There's absolutely no basis for Jones winning a decision against Ali unless you're biased.

It's no different to Tyson early in his career winning a competitive but clear decision over Tillis.

Nothing that I said is wrong.

Foster lost to every notable Heavyweight and wasn't really competitive with any of them.

I also think Foster gets a bit overrated because of the weak Light Heavyweight division that he ruled in flatters him somewhat.

Not that I'm saying Foster wasn't a very good H2H fighter at Light Heavyweight of course he was.

But he is fortunate that he didn't come along a few years later when the Light Heavyweight division was really strong in the late 70s/early 80s.

I think they'd both pose a potential danger to each other.

    Dempsey would tear through Foster

I think Bob could beat Tunney at heavyweight. Maybe Sharkey too. I think he would get overpowered by Baer.

It is impossible to judge Johnson or Jefferies from the footage available so i have no clue. Bob could probably beat Corbett and Fitz, but then again, who knows.

No Cooper too big. Foster wouldn’t stand a chance.

The 60s heavies he lost to was when he was a young fighter and he was coming in low 180s except for Jones where he was only 174. He improved and was a monster at 175 as the champ. Couldn’t beat the 2 best of early 70s but that was just like Quarry Ellis Bonavena Chuvalo Doug Jones Buster Mathis etc.

Dempsey was faster and more powerful than anyone Foster beat IMO. Dude had power to stop 220-240 lb heavies. Yes, these heavies were slow and unskilled but they were big and strong nonetheless.

Foster didn't have the greatest chin and Jack is quicker footed than the likes of Tiger, Quarry, Finnegan etc. Unless Foster catches Dempsey coming in and stops him, i don't see him beating Dempsey. Dempsey only needs to land one big left hook or one big combo and Fosters legs will go. IMO Dempsey should be a substantial favourite.
