He honestly should’ve retired after the Dubois rematch.

 

Usyk is a troll. So who knows how the rest of his career is going to go. That being said, he's got more reasons to keep fighting than just glory or money. He has an entire country that he represents and brings hope to with his fights. And he desperately wants to outlast the war so he can have a big homecoming fight in Kyiv.

As far as whether he can continue or not, he looked pretty damn good against Dubois last year. A hard charging dude a decade younger than himself who is built like a brick shithouse and who was coming off three big wins. Usyk did him sooner. Hardly got touched and then stopped him in five rounds. Who else in the division stops that Dubois in five rounds?

But he's slowing down! Sure. Except he's slowing down in a calculated way. We all know Usyk has a target weight he wants to come in at and he always hits that weight. He was 221 on the dot all the way through the 1st fight with Dubois. Now he's been slowly gaining muscle in his past couple of fights. 223 against Fury the 1st time. 226 in the rematch. Then almost 228 for the Dubois rematch. I think he realizes he doesn't need the crazy movement he had from the 1st AJ fight. That's all just a waste of energy. Better to bulk up a bit, sit on his punches a bit more, and just beat these bums up.

We've seen HWs go past 40 before and still be quite successful. With sports nutrition and training the way it is now and with Usyk being a freak that dedicates himself completely to improving and always being in shape? He could easily go to 41-43 if he wanted. And I don't know why dmt seems to think he's in trouble with his brain health. He's never been knocked out (except from that horse!). He's never even been truly wobbled in the ring. The amount of clean, flush, hard punches he has taken is a small fraction compared to every other boxer not named Shakur.

Dude spars 300 rounds to get ready for fights. I am not saying he is in trouble with his brain health right now. If he retires now, he will likely be fine. But its the accumulation of shots including lots of sparring that can cause issues later in life.

 

There's sparring and then there's sparring. I think most of the boxing world has moved past the James Toney we ain't leaving this ring until someone gets a serious concussion type of spars.

Facts are, Usyk has spent the majority of his time in the squared circle as an amateur wearing headgear working on a points system that doesn't encourage blasting your opponent out. He's only had 24 pro fights. The first 9 of those were complete walkovers where he never got touched. Through his entire cruiserweight career Briedis was the only fight where he was getting tagged back with anything. He was just that dominant down at that weight. Since his move to HW where he should be getting wrecked by these much bigger guys, I wouldn't even have to take my shoes off to count how many seriously hard shots to the head he's taken. A couple from Delboy, a handful from AJ, a handful from Fury. That's it. Dubois couldn't find his head to save his life. Well, except for his little head, of course.

I just don't think Usyk has accumulated all that much damage. The way his career has gone coupled with his boxing style and technical brilliance have severely cut down on blows to the head. Hell, compare Usyk's career to say, Holyfield's. Or Big George Foreman's. Foreman went to his grave sounding fine. Evander is in his 60s and sounds 100% and that dude went to war every time he stepped in the ring. Dude even used his head as a 3rd fist!

 

I hope you are right. I certainly want him to live a long and healthy life.

Usyk is a very smart man. While he has the opportunity, he is trying to make as much money as he possibly can. He is not saying, like some boxing romantics, “I’ve achieved everything I could, now it’s time to hang up the gloves.”

We see people like Mike Tyson, Pacquiao, and Floyd coming back to the ring at 600 years old because they are short of money.

In these troubled times, when the future of the world is uncertain, everyone should earn as much as they can and save as much as they can, just as Usyk is doing, of course through legal means.

 

Mike Tyson was buying random women cars. Floyd made stupid investments. Floyd also blew his money on nonsense. Usyk is smarter than that. He has likely invested wisely and he has not wasted his money on stupidity like Mike and Floyd.

 

God I hope he gets stripped, he's only been undisputed since July, hasn't fought once and is next getting in the ring against a kickboxer. Fury levels of taking the ****, looking like he'll hold the belts hostage while Turki and the establishment allows it.

 

Yes, I was a really big fan of his career, but there is almost nothing going on in heavyweight and it would be different without usyk.
The kickboxer is a joke. It was a joke when joshua fought the youtuber, but at least he didn't hold up the division. He wasn't defending belts after not fighting in forever.
