I'm also confused by his comparison to Augustus. Augustus did bloody Mayweather's nose yes and give him some rough moments. But for the most part Mayweather won near enough round and stopped Augustus. The punchstats were one sided 287-107. Julie Lederman scored it 80-72. Competitive in regards to the spirit and effort of Augustus ? And the fact he was able to land some punches that alot of Mayweather opponents couldn't do ? Yes. But not close at all in regards to the scoring. Madrimov on the other hand gave Crawford a close fight with some feeling Madrimov won the fight. I don't share that view BTW I thought Crawford deserved to beat Madrimov by 2 rounds or so. But the fact is Madrimov came close to beating Crawford which shows he's far from unbeatable. Arguably Madrimov would be considered one of Crawford's better opponents which shows Crawford doesn't really have a vast impressive resume. And that to me is why its so confusing that people are so confident that Crawford beats all these great fighters comfortably. When his level of opposition hasn't been close to that to be quite frank. Not that I'm saying Crawford in regards to the eye test shouldn't be rated as a major threat against alot of great fighters of course he should. But the point I'm making is he hasn't had the opposition for people to be so confident either. Crawford facing the likes of a prime ODLH, prime Tito, prime Mosley, would be a major step up in competition compared to 98 percent of Crawford's resume.
Nobody is unbeatable - NOBODY. SRR and SRL and Ali and Duran all took losses. Styles make fights and everyone can and will take a loss against different styles. Floyd lost to JLC1 and avoided a lot of prime competition. It would take a special fighter or a dirty rough fighter, like Duran or JLC1, to crack Floyd whose a bonafide ATG. But lots of fighters like SRL and Hearns...and Crawford in my opinion...crack the code. 2009 Manny had a real chance. Younger DLH beats him. Prime Mosley had a punchers chance. Every fighter loses and one of the formulas to beat Crawford is being akward and large w a good chin and Madrmiov fits that composition. DLH was a boxer puncher and Crawford has never struggled with that style. DLH, however, HAS struggled with crafty/elusive boxer punchers.
How many elite boxer punchers has Crawford actually fought ? Spence had been in multiple car crashes showing signs of CTE and has not fought since. Canelo hadn't had a stoppage in 4 years and had been going through the motions in dull 12 round fights. I'd say a prime ODLH at 147 is a step above the versions of those fighters that Crawford fought. Not that I'm saying Crawford couldn't beat ODLH on points. But I'm not seeing much elite opposition on Crawford's resume to warrant him automatically being the favourite over so many of these great fighters. ODLH, Mosley, in their primes would've walked through Crawford's resume from Lightweight to Welterweight without that much difficulty.
this is a really good post. gives props where due, but refrains from glazing. agree. bud could beat dlh, but would he? not very likely
THIS Is who TC beat at 147: Jeff Horn Amir Khan Kell Brook Jose Benevidas who hasn't beaten anyone of note Errol Spence who came off a car crash injury Shawn Porter who then immediately retired No one elite. None who are a lock for the HoF.
I believe it is time for you to be directed to your local spiritual advisor. Which is Paula White-Cain, with any luck.
