I will do you one better- if he didn't train right then that's on him. It's part of the fighter's job. In fact, you could argue the real job is to train, and the fight is just the test.

I think a lot of people want to take credit from Ngannou. If they need and excuse, they should just admit that Ngannou is a tremendous athlete, and that is all.

He didn't outland Usyk otherwise he would have won. That's not an argument I'm gonna entertain further.

Even if I didn't think that was just an excuse, it's not Fury's fault Wlad had an "off-night".

He did his job, got in the ring and absolute schooled Vlad in his home turf, then retired afterwards because he had his own problems to face. In his mind he had completed boxing and chose to leave out on top rather than stall the division (like Usyk should have done after Fury 1 and 2).

You also say "wouldas" don't exist yet immediately contradict yourself with Fury was "probably" scared of losing to a guy he beat 12-0.

 

He was outlanding Usyk after 9 rounds, that means the fight was competetive to that point.

Of course it doesn't. But the rematch would tell us more. And I wouldn't call landing 3 punches a round more a schooling. Fury didn't retire, he was just away fighting drug ban and drinking and doing coke. He never considered himself retired, as he was still claiming he was the lineal champion.

I agree, it's nothing to do with Fury if an opponent has an off night or not.
I picked Fury to beat Wladimir and gave the reason why I felt he would win, but I am not sure Fury wanted the rematch.

Fury didn't beat Wladimir and just retire afterwards.
He was due to rematch Wladimir but postponed (not retired) due to an ankle injury.
The next new date Fury didn't have and vacated the remaining titles. That was in October 2016.
The fight with Wladimir was in November 2015
The IBF title was stripped from Fury for agreeing to go through with the Wladimir rematch
