If both are at their normal levels, isn't Dubios a lot better than Wardley?

He might be, but it's not a card game. Dubois is hittable, and Wardley is a determined, explosive, hard puncher. There is a reason for DDD to be afraid, even if he is the favorite.

Wardley has won 7 of his 24 rounds at the top level. 13 out of 31 if we count the Clarke fights.

All the reasons people say Wilder was overrated are much truer of Wardley. Wilder didn't need his power to bail him out. He was going to win his wins if he didn't land the shot. What he was doing was sustainable. How Wardleys been winning is not.

 

Dubious has wierd moments in a few fights where he turns into a big mushy baby then he has other bouts where he takes big shots and keeps coming. Wardley is fairly consistent in his performances though.

There is defintely a deep seated weakness in Dubious where if you can tire him and make him uneasy with pressure he will fold like a papercup because he does try to box and move sometimes. Meanwhile Wardley is a big stiff lump but he doesn't get deterred from his fight really.

 

Why would getting beat by Usyk affect his confidence? Who has beaten Usyk?

 

I expect a shootout, and either can get their lights turned out. I think a prolonged one sided beat down is what will frustrate him mentally. I’m not sure Fabio is the guy to do that.

 

I think if Wardley was Dubois' next fight immediately after his win over Joshua then he would take it. But after Usyk I don't think Dubois will have the gumption to withstand Wardleys aggression.

Should still be competitive regardless and will be interesting to see how it plays out.

 

I don't think he's a lot better at all. Wardley would've beaten that version of AJ in the same manner; he's completely wrecked. Dubois likely would've had a similar fight with Parker as Wardley did; he may have gotten the W, but I think Wardley and Dubois are very well matched at this point in their careers. Wardley's style is more dangerous for Dubois than the other way around I think.

Yes generally dubois seems clearly better. But wardley showed skills in the parker fight i didn't see him show before. Defensive head movement with the back to the ropes for example. That was exceptionally good.

Also he has super quick hands. And a very smart team (see the ko against huni - i am an old fan of lee wylie's, i loved his videos when i had started boxing and searched for videos with boxing analysis and back then there were very few and less good ones).

So if wardley is still progressing at the pace he did from the fights before huni to 'beating' parker, everything is possible.

 

He's a frontrunner.

It seems to me that he can take shots all night long if he feels he's winning. When he feels like he's behind, he looks to exit.

 

Wardley is mentally stronger than Dubois, but when it comes to boxing skills there is not much difference.
