Rocky Marciano vs the great Jimmy Young

Young didn’t hit hard against Ali Foreman Cooney etc. These are 220 + guys. Against a 186 pounder he’s going to hit really hard. So you basically have Ezzard Charles 2 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier. How well would Charles have done with those advantages?

 

Young has nothing to keep him off, and Marciano would likely put Young into Survival mode especially down the stretch, and Marciano would take a decision.

 

Swarmers are bad style match ups for a defensive boxer like Young who doesn't have power.

Marciano, Frazier, Tyson, would all beat Young convincingly.

Marciano by convincing UD.

 

As others have said, styles favor Marciano here.

His success against Ali and Foreman, was due to stylistic advantages on his part.

Marciano probably takes care of business here.

Having said that, Young was still an awkward spoiler, who could be dangerous for Marciano.

And he claims Rocky is one of his favourite fighters

 

He might survive against Rocky but his face is going to look like a gargoyle after 15. His slickness won't mean jack against somebody with Rocky's work rate.

 

If you get a young Marciano, in a way, you will have the best of both worlds. How could just Young lose to a young and Marciano combined...? And, well, he retired fairly young, so, you could say all Marcianos are a young/Marciano combo.

 

Did he beat any 200lbs plus?
Young beat Lyle,Foreman and drew with Shavers,so I don't see Marciano stopping him,and the slick boxers Marciano beat were 38 years old Walcott 197lbs , who was in front after 12 rds,Charles185lbs who went the distance in their first fight and was a bit past his best,punchless Lastarza185lbs, and lhvy179lbs Mathews.
I pick Marciano ,but he would have his work cut out here imo.

 

If this were a 12 rounds modern day fight, I can see Young maybe nicking a close decision.
A 15 rounds, Young builds up a lead, making it ugly, but Rocks pressure, durability and late surge's swing the fight in his favour, and gets the decision.
Not a good fight for Marciano at all.

 

Let's save "great" for fighters of greatness.

 

I picked Marciano by decision. Marciano beat better boxers than young. Fun fact just looked up Marciano only faced five less men of 200 and over than Louis did. In a third less fights. I’d also pick the Walcott Marciano best over Young.

We’re also known for their boxing ability (wouldn’t compare them to Young) they were over 200 as well as Louis who beat Walcott at the same weight he was against Marciano although older for sure.
He also beat a great boxer in Moore who I would wager hit harder than Young
