Yeah, that's what I'm saying all along: the facts are Wallin was universally rated as a Top 10 HW contender. If it was based on merit, is a completely different discussion. Phil Jackson's case is one, since back end of the Top 10 is usually interchangable, but Luis Ortiz is an example I use more often: he was rated Top 5 for years and you can argue it was without merit too and a lot of posters here did that. But we do classify Wilder's wins over him as Top 5 wins. And we do classify Phil Jackson as Lewis' Top 10 wins.

That's how historical analysis work. You can throw hissy fits as much as you want, but the fact remains: Wallin was universally rated as a Top 10 contender.

Ortiz example has more merit than Wallin also he is Not a top 5 win and I've never seen anyone bring up Phil Jackson when mentioning all the top contenders Lewis beat

Luis Ortiz was a Top 5 win for Wilder. Both times. And Phil Jackson is always counted when analyzing Lennox resume as for as a Top 10 wins go.

I don't consider Luis Ortiz top 5, vaguely top 10. Nobody brings up Phil Jackson as a legit top contender on Lewis's record

Well, again, you may not consider him Top 5, but the facts are, he was universally rated as a Top 5 guy when Wilder fought him.

Lewis has a lot of other Top 10 wins so this one flies of the radar, but it does count when it comes to Top 10 wins.

Luis Ortiz was a top contender thats as definitive of a statement as I can make

But Phil Jackson was never at any point a top 10 contender in reality, thats what actually matters. There isn't any proof for him to be favored over any of the other contenders back then

The proof is there - he was rated in the Top 10. That's all we need. Ratings are not compiled with "who can beat who" thought in mind.

He was rated I think #10 by The Ring I believe, just before Joshua fought him

Ratings shift around, often based on results.
At that time Wallin was coming off a win over Gassiev who is currently #10 with the Ring and #6 with Boxrec and had only lost a tough competitive fight to Fury who many felt was in the top 5, and had beaten Breazeale and Kauffman

Historical analysis does not involve looking at what "Bad Left Hook" or "TBRB" or the WBA thought at one point as if they're the historians of this sport. Rankings are subject to the whims of promoters and whatever money is to be made at the time.

All the folks claiming Otto was top 10 are unwilling to even try to use logic to place him in the list of fighters I've shared. It's telling. There isn't some ultimate authority in this sport; a fighters ability is ultimately decided based on the sound reasoning of those discussing that fighter. You are unwilling to attempt to discuss Otto, and have become boring pointing to the opinions of others which you don't even necessarily believe.

There are many more who don't understand the business of boxing and how rankings are, without exception, subject to the influence of promoters and what money is to be made. Maybe they do understand this, but like to forget it in certain situations.

Murat Gassiev is now rank 10. Please explain why and how the corpse of a 44 year old Pulev gets a fighter to rank 10. I'm not joking when I say that Jake Paul, while he wouldn't be the favorite, has a chance at beating that same 44 year old immobile Pulev.

It does. It shows the perception of the public regarding a fighter that we are doing an analysis of. If you got proof that The Ring or TBRB rating panels are taking money from promoters, prove it. Otherwise, your point is invalid.

When it comes to the alphabet body rankings, they are of course very flawed, but if you see a fighter in 3 of 4 these rankings, it tells us something.

Like I said - your list has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Wallin was universally seen as a Top 10 rated contender by the public at the moment we're discussing. That's all that matters. I don't care if you think he was there without merit. The consensus was what it was. Even on this very forum.
