Wallin was a favorite over AJ according to your boy @MarkusFlorez99 and had every advantage over him except power and size. So, if AJ was a consensus Top 5 at the time, here you have a great explanation of Wallin being ranked in the Top 10, lol.

You may also take it with the biggest Wallin fan on this site, he had some great arguments that may get your attention xD

You want me to prove that the sport of boxing is corrupt? LOL

Would you like me to "prove" that athletes take steroids while we're at it?

I want you to prove that Otto was better than some guys on a list. But you can't, so you won't. There was no consensus about Otto Wallin, he wasn't even on the radar of anyone besides losing a bloody decision to Fury. He wasn't "universally" anything by the public. His wins don't add up to whatever bozo ranking some random internet rags came up with. One organization had him rank 5 and you want to include that as evidence of Otto being top 10. How do you expect me to take seriously the opinion of an organization that has Otto ****ing Wallin top 5 in the last few years?

Gassiev is now rank 10 by the Ring. His wins do not add up to that ranking, so I do not take it seriously. Should I go on a mission to prove that the Ring is corrupt, or should I just laugh at the ranking knowing they're setting Gassiev up to be food for some fighter who will then have "beaten a top 10 fighter"?

    Please grow up.

The best thing is: I don't have to. All I have to do is to point out is that he was universally rated as a Top 10 contender by every independent ranking outlet out there. Your opinion of whether he should be rated that way is irrelevant to the subject. It's just one opinion out of the bunch, which goes against the consensus from November 2023. Just like I don't have to prove that Phil Jackson was the 9th best HW in the world in 1993. Just like I don't have to prove Ortiz was the 5th best heavyweight in the world between 2016 and 2020. It's all in the history books. Just like Howard Smith being ranked as the number 7 contender in 1976. It's all there.

People are free to point out that the evidence overwhelmingly points to him not being top 10 though

There is this thing called common sense that overwhelmingly points to Wallin not being top 10 based on his actual career. Why wouldn't I take my own opinion over ring magazine or some sanctioning body?

Your opinion from April 2026 with a benefit of hindsight has no barring on the consensus from November 2023. And it's not just Ring ratings. All the independent rankings had Otto in the Top 10.

To show you how idiotic it is to rate fighters from hindsight, even in this very thread you have guys like this, who rated Otto in the Top 10 back then, but then voted "lol, no".

So what's more important to the period we're analyzing here: a guy putting Otto in his Top 10 in November 2023, or the same guy saying he wasn't Top 10 back then, even he, himself, considered him as such.

12 out of 16 posters on this forum had Otto Wallin in or near their Top 10 lists.

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/how-do-you-rank-the-current-top-10-heavyweights.713265/

People were saying Otto was a threat to AJ, a potential banana skin, some even favored him to win, including guys like Bob Arum or Teddy Atlas, not to mention some of he AJ's biggest fans here. But soon as AJ walked through him and broke his face, he wasn't what they thought he was, lol.

I'll give you another example - Michael Grant was universally recognized as the number 1 contender to Lewis' crown in the year 2000. Looking from hindsight, it was ridiculous ro rate him number 2/3 heavyweight in the world. But it doesn't change the fact that he he was rated as such.

You're just repeating yourself and not trying to make a coherent point. Saying "universally" over and over doesn't dispute what I've laid out very clearly. "It's all in the history books" like Bad Left Hook or TBRB who had Otto rank #5 are boxing books of history. We also cannot forget the ESB thread with what was it, 10 people with Otto in their top 10? Clearly all of this "historical" evidence trumps simple logic and reason for you.

Account created in 2024 arguing about the ranking of a fighter in 2023 looks an awful lot like yet another sad alt. Maybe make another alt to agree with yourself here.

Not everyone ranked him in the top 10 even back then though. There were fans and rating bodies who didn't have him in the top 10.

So no not every independent ranking had him top 10.

No, it was "universal". Didn't you know that posters "MarkusFlorez" and "DaRealJT" had Otto in their top 10 in a random thread? Also, how about Bad Left Hook, or "TBRB" who had him #5? Sounds historical to me.

Don't look at his actual accomplishments or ability. It's not historical enough.

Of course not everybody ranked him as such, but the large majority of boxing fraternity did. That's what the word "the consensus" means.

Those ratings need logical justification to be of merit otherwise i couldn't care less. Wallin has no justification to be in the top 10 even you yourself said there are ranked fighters that do not belong in the top 10 and Wallin is a textbook example

Like I said earlier, we can argue if he should have been rated in the Top 10, but that's only opinions. The facts are, he was. Simple as that. Just like Phil Jackson was rated Top 10 in 1993. Just like Ortiz was rated Top 5 in 2019. Just like Michael Grant was rated number 2/3 in 2000.

That's a slippery slope. All of these ratings are opinion based at their core slapping "universally recognized" on it does not make it true, but in reality more than 10 heavyweights have beaten more proven contenders than Wallin and in reality Wallin got dominated by a shot gatekeeper

Wallins claim to fame skewed his perception, his perception was flattered and not in line with reality. It's okay to admit this and accept this.

I made all the points I needed to make. I'm not discussing your opinion with you. You may have not had Wallin in the Top 10 at the point and that's fine. Back end of Top 10 rankings are often interchangable. The facts are - he was universally seen as such. You crying about for 11 pages won't change that.

Well, "universal recognition" is after all a set of opinions, given the majority of them, which form the consensus. And Wallin getting beat by Chisora a year after AJ broke his face doesn't say anything about his level or perception in November 2023.

There was no credible consensus that Wallin was a Top 10 this threads poll proves it. Even scientific consensus can be wrong. You evolve your understanding as the new evidence overturns the old
