fck me, this Peter Badel is a dead-set flog.

"This masthead can reveal the Queensland government has held talks with Tszyu’s promoters with a view to staging Australian boxing’s biggest fight since Jeff Horn’s epic upset of Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium in 2017."

It definitely wont be bigger than the 44,000 at Kambosos Jr v Haney at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne as Cbus Super Stadium only has a 27,000-capacity venue.
Plus, there are no belts on line.

King Timmy is still the biggest boxing show in the country, Bionic Man. That's the truth & sometimes the truth is hard to take. Belts have never been less relevant than they are now. There's a handful of 'real' world champions (i.e. Lineal champs) & the rest are just belt holders. There's nothing wrong with being a belt holder but know the difference between one of those & a real world champion. Will be great for the sport here if King Timmy v Errol Bungeye is in Queensland.

Just watched Jacob Cassar take a German to school at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. It's the first fight that's been on at a civilized hour. The Australian boys & girls have opened their accounts with 4 wins from 4 fights to start the tournament. Great stuff from all of them (Monique Suraci, Lachlan Lawson, Jye Dixon & Jacob). This is our A-team over there with our best credentialed fighters. Interestingly, the Kiwis have also sent a team to this tournament. In fact, they've sent one of the biggest teams of any competing nation. That's odd, because it's a high-level tournament & the Kiwis haven't sent their fighters to any of the second or third tier tournaments that you really need to do in order to be successful at the top tier tournaments. Unsurprisingly, every Kiwi who has fought in the tournament so far has been easily defeated. Not sending fighters to development tournaments & then turning up at the big tournaments expecting to do well is what Australia used to do. Then we were left scratching our heads as to why we didn't win anything. Looks like Australia will have to carry the load over there in Brazil in terms of representing this part of the world. Bit like defence spending.

Nikita is like Ray with the media when they ask him about Tim "I don't answer questions"

Journalists aren’t journalists any more. They’re cheerleaders. Courier Mail is owned just an advertisement for Fox Sports / Main Event. I’ll never forget that when Opetaia was defending his titles on the Gold Coast the Courier Mail ran an article that day talking about Mitchell Leek facing Ben Horn the following week on Fox Sports :D Journalistic integrity barely exists in major Australian publications anymore.

Nothing fabricated here. Nothing staged. No BS hype job. Just two in shape athletes ready to go to war. Kinda like how it should be.

Yep it is just pathetic. In the old days I used to like reading the Telegraph sports section with my morning breakfast and coffee now all the articles are just garbage that goes for boxing and NRL. None of these journo's have credibility anymore it is all just opinion pieces or ridiculous rumors about personal feuds between people or between football clubs like the Gordon Tallis Broncos feud like who really gives AF about that. I know I brought it up in this thread but more for just a laugh but who really cares if the Tszyu brothers are having a tiff they will work it out eventually but these journo's spread gossip like high school girls.

You can't expect News Limited or Foxtel / Main Event to promote shows they aren't involved with. Where are the articles in the SMH or Brisbane Times promoting the Tasman Fighters shows? Channel Nein owns those newspapers & Stan. They're the ones who should be promoting coverage of the Tasman Fighters shows, not News Limited or their former entities. They must think no-one has any interest.

Correct. They are the epitome of the publicity machine. Don’t get me wrong, both boys can fight. But if their last name was Smith the level of interest wouldn’t be where it currently is. And for what they’ve accomplished, their profile is infinitely bigger than say Daniel Geale who did way more but struggled for column inches.

    Looks like we’ve unearthed Badel’s account :D

Mate it’s a newspaper, it’s meant to be reporting the news. I can understand Fox Sports not doing a segment boxer that features on a Stan broadcast.

Journalists however are bound by a code of ethics. Many probably aren’t aware of it. One of those is independence. Others off the top of my head are impartiality and fairness. It’s been a while since I studied it.

Type “Brisbane Times Tim Tszyu” into google. They cover him plenty.

Or perhaps they cover him because they’re more impartial, which is their job.

I mean Opetaia has been exposed to a far greater worldwide fan base than Tim and Nikita, so I guess that makes him popular.

Strange though that we needed to know about Leek v Horn a week out on Opetaia fight day.

Most fight fans know how to sift through the cheerleading. But Joe Blow public certainly doesn’t.

The views of the Sandman can only be found in one place. That's right here on the Stifler's Mum thread.

    Beware of cheap imitations.

It was certainly tongue in cheek because anyone who spends as much time on this fine portal would surely know more about the fight game than Pete.

NZ amateur boxing (NZ boxing in general) has been a mess for awhile, with some of the drama coming out a few months back. There's a slight glimmer that it is starting to turn around. Also Connor Campbell made it through to the next round.
