What If Merciless Mercer Had Being in their against Rocky Marciano, instead of Don Cockell? Is This a life or death fight.. for both men?
Mercer is a very hard fight for Rocky. That being said, i think Marciano's work rate will be too much unless Mercer can get him out of there in six rounds. Very hard fight and both guys would be busted up.
Potentially the end of Rocky s reign Over 15 I can see Mercer controlling the tempo and piling up the point's. The bigger, heavier man would be punishing Rocky as he comes forward. Rocky would fight his Life out in there of course and he's not taking a step back, but that's what probably gets him smashed up in there.
Mercer would be outworked for a decision loss. Just like he almost always did against elite opposition. But, it would have brutal moments when both opened up.
Would probably be the hardest fight of his career. Imagine an opponent who was almost impervious to his punches but had the kind of power that could drive him back into the ropes.
The Marciano that faced Don would lose. He was out of prime. The Marciano that faced Louis would have worn him down. No way Mercer would have been able to keep that pace.
Would he find a chainsaw or a gun? Without either, or both, he gets destroyed by a real heavyweight, real-sized, amateur trained and not in his dotage. Mercer walked through Morrison, Cooper and Lewis. This little pipsqueak isn't going to make him even blink.
lol Mercer didn’t walk through Morrison he was backed up and getting his butt kicked the first three rounds. Was even hurt a bit in first and third. Morrison got tired and sparked after. Marciano isn’t getting tired
He walked through Morrison who was, if nothing else, a true fast twitch puncher (and one with 8" more reach than Rocky), a guy who wasn't a stubby, plodding attrition puncher... and Ray wasted him in spectacular fashion. Mercer just wastes Marciano who has nothing to keep Ray off him. Too slow, too small, too stubby... just too Rudy.
Mercer was tailormade for Marciano. Mercer had a lazy style that Marciano would take full advantage of. I loved watching Mercer back in the day, but against elite competition he always came up short for a reason.
