Joe Louis is a much, much greater fighter than Marciano.

Did you look up how many men under 180lbs Marciano fought? The answer is 7.

How about under 185lbs? Eleven, with a further 3 within a pound of that weight.
How many ranked men of 200lbs plus did Marciano fight?
How many of them were prime?

Louis was naturally bigger than Marciano tho.. if you look at their records overall I would bet Marciano was at a size disadvantage more regularly than Louis.

Louis was almost 6 2 and was about 200 at peak for Abe Simon 2 he was 207.
Rocky was probably barely 5 10 and for the 2 biggest fights of his career Louis and Walcott 1 he weighed 184 1/2. So yeah he was a lot bigger.

A Liston-Marciano fight would have been something certainly.

Well in the old days people turned out for hangings. Rocky might get a couple of shots in and Liston may flinch but Sonnys shots will lift the 185 pounder off the floor.

That has nothing to do with whom they respevtively fought,it's the heavyweight division.

Probably only fought one prime ranked man above 200. I would guess they had roughly the same rate of men at every weight as that was the weight of the time. Louis fought two shws one in prime the other on the start of the down swing. The ones ranked would have been Louis, Cockell, Savold. Point being he wasn’t avoiding men of weight a
exactly and Marciano reigned supreme in the HW division. So why do you get hung up on the 200+ number?

It would have been a demolition, a heavyweight from the future versus one from the past, between them was the watershed that divided the old from the new, from scrappy little Rudy's, breadliners and occasional circus freaks to modern day, modern sized athletes.

According to Charles and Harold Johnson they used to handle him in the gym rather easily. Little Marty Marshall gave him a hard time, little Machen survived. Joe Louis was the same size as Liston when he fought Marciano and Rocky pushed him around the whole fight. You have a revisionist history.

In what year did Charles and Liston spar?

How did Marty like it a few months after the first go around when Liston used his head as a canvas mop?

Joe Louis was a shot to hell, one handed mummy when Marciano got a taste of him. And The Rock still left with a blown up face... from a ONE HANDED Louis with fenceposts for legs.

It’s amazing how respected Marciano was by the pros at the time after his career and the trainers and the pros after and media men who saw him live. Ali wasn’t even sure he could have beat him after horsing around with a 46 year old for a movie. But you.,,you know it all.

    Oh, it's you again.

They made a nice movie about Rocky. You might enjoy it.

Ali was just being magnanimous he knew the old news media and fans overwhelmingly still thought Dempsey Louis and Rocky were unbeatable gods. Belittling Rocky would have brought everyone down on him he was unpopular enough at that time.
