We have no evidence that Harry Greb was that good.

Training sessions do not confirm anything.

I appreciate this is a trolling thread, the type I normally ignore, but for whatever reason, I'll make an exception, and will take the bait.

The deepest resume in boxing history, with film of the multiple ATGs he beat, doesn't constitute evidence now?

It is true that it is theoretically possible that Greb looked awful. What is beyond dispute, is that he was amongst the most effective fighters in history vs the greatest fighters of his/their era.

Harry Greb's wins over top 10 rated fighters:

    Tommy Gibbons x2
    Gene Tunney x1
    Kid Norfolk x1
    Maxie Rosenbloom x1
    Mickey Walker x1
    Johnny Wilson x3
    Jeff Smith x6
    Tommy Loughran x4
    Charley Weinert x1
    Art Weigand x1
    Allentown Joe Gans x1
    Ted Moore x2
    Tony Marullo x2
    Martin Burke x1
    Mike McTigue x2
    Jimmy Slattery x1
    Quintin Rojas x1
    Jack Renault x2
    Tiger Flowers x1
    Jimmy Delaney x3
    Roland Todd x1
    Frank Moody x1

That's a total of 39 wins over top 10 ring rated fighters. And those are men who managed to get ranked between only 1924-1926, as no official rankings existed prior to that part of Greb's career.

    Wins over Hall of Famers:

    Battling Levinsky x6
    Jack Dillon x2
    Mike Gibbons x1
    Tommy Gibbons x2
    Tommy Loughran x4
    Kid Norfolk x1
    Jeff Smith x6
    Maxie Rosenbloom x1
    Mickey Walker x1
    Leo Houck x3
    Jimmy Slattery x1
    Gene Tunney x1
    Billy Miske x2
    Tiger Flowers x1

That's 32 wins over Hall of Famers. As many as Inoue (arguably the current P4P best fighter in the world) has fights.

    Wins over champions:

    Al McCoy x2
    George Chip x2
    Bob Moha x6
    Johnny Wilson x3
    Gene Tunney x1
    Mike Gibbons x1
    Mickey Walker x1
    Maxie Rosenbloom x1
    Mike McTigue x2
    Tiger Flowers x1
    Jack Dillon x2
    Battling Levinsky x6
    Tommy Loughran x4
    Jimmy Slattery x1
    Kid Norfolk x1 (coloured chanpion)

That makes for 34 wins over 15 different champions. 10 more than Floyd's so called all time record of 24 against 22 champions, in an era with twice the amount of divisions and 2-4 times the amount of belts.

Yeah, no evidence he was good at all.

I wish that guy who would forcefully pick himself to beat old time fighters would come back. I miss that guy.

I mean what's true is there is footage of some the guys Greb beat.

I think that is kind of a good counter argument to this.

We have no video evidence he was very good. We've got plenty of evidence.

Hes not the GOAT and theres lots of weaknesses in his resume. If you're trying to claim that. Point fighter in the NWS era and all. If you're trying to claim he wasn't a P4P ATG yeah no he was.

Yes i was just thinking to myself too that Bach couldn't be all that as i never witnessed him performing the St Matthew Passion or the Goldberg variations.

Are we talking real wins or just newspaper decisions, which are worthless.

No footage of Greb-Tunney I? Just that he beat Tunney commands respect.. serious respect.. mad respect.

I'll have to try to find some Harry Greb videos on YouTube.

I mean, even if we don't, he's got wins over HOF's like Loughran, Walker, and Tommy Gibbons plus official wins over champions and claimants like Jeff Smith, Eddie McGoorty, Al McCoy, Bob Moha, and Johnny Wilson. Going 108-8-3 in your official career with those wins indicate that he was probably...decent.

We have the 'Quality of the Men he Beat', many of which we have Film for and likewise the many who in turn 'they' beat...

    Plenty of Evidence.

Well there was this guy on r/boxing arguing that a common paesant from today's time would be able to beat the lights out of John L Sullivan so maybe he just migrated!
