Both P4P and among the Mexicans. He's certainly the most underrated out of all of them. He has a positive record against many elite guys and he's just kinda not brought up in most ATG Mexicans conversations. He's: 1-0 vs Fidel Labarba 2-1 vs Newsboy Brown 2-1 vs Speedy Dado 1-0 vs Mike Belloise 1-1 vs Freddie Miller 2-0 vs Chalky Wright 2-2 vs Henry Armstrong Plus on top of that, he's got wins over tons of rated guys. Beat Battling Shaw in their sole encounter, who'd go on to become the first Mexican world champion, is 2-0 vs Archie Bell, has wins over Pablo Dano, Richie Fontaine, Davey Abad, Young Tommy, Tommy Paul, Mickey Cohen and more. Far from world beaters or historically notable contenders, but they do provide some depth, as well as proof that yeah, he really was at that level and didn't just stumble into his best wins. Certainly a resume more impressive than whatever Carlos Zarate and especially Ricardo Lopez have going on, green Armstrong or not. So, where does he rank ?
Top 10 Mexican. Top 150 all time (I'd listen to a case for Top 100) Top 20 all time at featherweight on my list.
I can't remember the exact position, but he's somewhere in the lower half of my top 20 all time FWs, too.
We should also rank him among boxing’s babies. I did a thread some time ago to get a list of them: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/boxing-babies.655239/ This content is protected
I know McGrain's top 100 list extended to Top 150 and I pushed for Arizmendi to be included. I haven't made one a top 100 list in a while, but when I have I've thought about including Baby A.
