Who was the most overrated champion during the decade 2012-2022?

Santa Cruz, Horn, pacman

 

Pacquaio lost to Bradley, Floyd, Horn, Ugas and Marquez arguably twice around that time or just before. And Bradley and Horn both beat him. It wasn't robbery. The guy is juiced up to the eye balls look at him when he first started 8 division champ with a little help from his friends.

 

Mikey Garcia - Never understood the fawning people did over this guy.

Loma - Lost his second pro fight. Never lived up to the amateur hype.

Chocolatito - Ring, ESPN and even HBO were insisting this guy was the best boxer on the planet pound-for-pound. He won titles in four divisions - from 105 to 115 pounds - or 10 measly pounds. I don't think they even really believed it. IT was the height of the 'hipster doofus' era in boxing fans. Utterly ridiculous. Nobody gives Roman a second thought anymore.

Zou Shiming - another 108-pound midget we were told by ESPN and the boxing pundits would be the ticket to turn the population of China into boxing fans. Went 9-2 as a pro and retired.

 

Obviously Wilder. None of the others were rated that highly, Wilder was being talked about as the most dangerous puncher of all time for knocking over 40 literal tomato cans.

 

Agreed on Loma.

 

There were plenty of bad champions but most of them were considered fringe. Some bad champions, like wilder, had a weird freak cult following that bought into all the promotional hype hook, line, and sinker.

 

I don't even know if a lot of these guys were rated highly by enough people to be overrated, but I personally overrated Matthysse on several occasions. I'm not sure how we'd ever know about Pirog. He looked the goods to me. I think Lomachenko was the most overrated, because so many people seemed to think he might be the best ever or would've beaten Floyd, etc. Both of these statements are delusional to me. Awesome athlete, but as a fighter, so much more sophistication and flash than winning ability, imo. Someone like Wilder, who's nowhere near Loma, who is just surprisingly raw for the streak he had, may've been overrated, like everyone, in terms of promoting him, but I don't feel like he's even rated as highly as he could reasonably be by people on this forum and most hardcore fans. Which isn't high but higher at least.

Very few have been protected enough to have been quite so overrated.

 

I dont even know who Zou is/was so his hype couldnt have been that much.

Loma was great. Chocalatito and Mikey were solid. Not sure how either were overrated. At least not in the same league as Wilder who lost every meaningful fight in his career

Wilder can't be overrated when like half the community thought he had no idea what he was doing.
