Who was the most overrated champion during the decade 2012-2022?

You missed Zou? He was a Chinese Olympic Gold Medalist (a couple times, if I recall) who Top Rank insisted could be the FIRST FIGHTER to generate a BILLION-DOLLAR PPV.

He went 9-2. And retired.

I don't know how many guys who never even won 10 fights were expected to generate a BILLION dollars for a promoter.

Maybe that's when Bob Arum should've retired.

 

Wilder wasn't a bad champion. He won the WBC heavyweight title and made 11 title defenses in five years ... he defended against Tyson Fury two times (once successfully), twice against Luis Ortiz, stopped Arreola (when Wilder had a broken hand and a torn bicep), signed to fight Povetkin (who blew his drug test), brutally KOed mandatory Breazeale, knocked Spzilka cold and he had to be carried out of the ring on a stretcher (when do you see that), blizted former champ Stiverne in one round.

His reign was thoroughly exciting.

And was never on any best fighter pound-for-pound lists while he was doing it, unlike some dudes who lost to Sandor Martin

 

Wilder by far.

 

He made 10 successful title defenses. And when anyone other than Usyk makes a successful defense against Fury, let me know.

 

I'm not saying I agree with that half of the community. I'm just observing that a large share of the community thinks Wilder is a fraud at least as a champion. And many go even further. And they do so constantly. Theres a whole library of people giving Wilder over the top hate we rarely see with top HWs. It is what it is.

 

A large share of the community picked Wilder to lose every mythical matchup on this forum for the better part of a decade. And he was never on any pound-for-pound lists. So, how was he overrated?

A large share of this community also raved about some of the guys I mentioned and had those guys on their pound-for-pound lists, and when they lost, they were forgotten BY ALL THOSE PEOPLE and I haven't seem them brought up in years.

Because they never deserved to be on those lists to begin with.

 

I'm saying he can't be overrated because of that.

Jeff Horn and quite frankly it isn't even close. Undeserved win, then destroyed, then fell into "Bolivian"........................

As for Wilder who everyone seems to be piggy backing on.....................please stop. I don't even like the man and never really have anything good to say about him but let's be completely serious, how is he overrated? The point of being overrated is that a contingent of people think you are something you aren't. No one thinks very highly of him.

Chocolatito was an exemplary fighter and Mikey was at least very good for the championship level. Zou was never that highly rated by fans to begin with, even though he was a highly successful amateur.

Name 20 fights where Loma fought better opposition, or Errol Spence, or Mikey Garcia, or Teofimo Lopez or all the other "pound-for-pounders" in the last dozen years who faced better opponents in 20 fights?

Wilder was never ranked pound-for-pound. Looks like he has more quality fights with quality opponents than a lot of folks.

I certainly wouldn't consider those 20 fighters and fights the WORSE I'VE SEEN IN 45 years.
