Who, if any, of the fighters Frazier beat would you have as favourite against Marciano around his prime (ca Louis to Moore)? Poll included.
Much the same as reality apart from 1971 Ali. Rocky would take even more punishment to his face than Joe did,and if it had taken place in Joe's time the referee would probably have stopped the bout in Muhammad's favour due to Marciano's bleeding. If it was in Rocky's era when the referees let the fighter with blood pouring out of his face carry on,then it would be an Ali points decision. In spite of Joe taking a lot of punishment to his head and face he still slipped more shots than Rocky.
Rocky stands no chance against FOTC Ali. Zero zip that Ali was in tremendous shape both physically and mentally for that fight as well as completely dominating Quarry and stopping Bonavena. Ali is stopping Marciano befor the 8th round.
Ali whips Rocky badly. Hes much faster and has twice the boxing skills add to that Marciano size wise looks like his 10 year old brother see below. Google Ali vs Marciano Clash of Titans go to images. He d throw him around with the size advantage and Ali s punches would hit often and solid because of his speed advantage and really hard due to 30 lb weight pull.
I would only favor FOTC Ali over Marciano from that that list. The others might prove to be tough fights though. Bonavena vs Marciano would be a war and a fun fight to watch
While I'd only favor FOTC Ali, in one-offs, I doubt that Marciano can run the gauntlet against the others like Frazier did. His inferior defense, and propensity to cuts, sees his run end sooner imo
Frazier title opponents I'd favor Rocky against are Stander, Terry Daniels and Zyglewicz. The rest and the sort of opponents you put in the poll Marciano would be a heavy dog. Marciano is much closer to Stander, Terry Daniels and Zyglewicz then he is to the rest of the gang thats for sure. Or should be a heavy dog he wouldn't be because thats how gambling works but he would have a very low chance of winning.
As I said in the other thread these fantasy scenarios don't work because realistically Marciano wouldn't be in his prime for every single one of these fights. It took until Marciano's 25th professional fight until he started fighting notable Heavyweights. Marciano got a gift decision against journeyman Ted Lowry in his 21st professional fight. You don't think a pre prime Marciano having to fight the likes of Oscar Bonavena, Eddie Machen, Doug Jones. In his 12th, 13th, 14th, professional fights back to back couldn't pick up a loss somewhere ? And then when Marciano does reach his prime he has to face Ali in FOTC who he's not beating. Then he has to face arguably the worst stylistic match up ever for him in Foreman who he stands 0 chance against. How does a past his prime Marciano react to losing to Ali and getting KO'ed by Foreman ? and then having to face a 6'4 220+ pound Bugner who fought the fight of his life vs Frazier ? So to answer the question if we're following a realistic timeline of Frazier's career. A pre prime Marciano could pick up a loss to some of the tough opponents Frazier fought early in his career. Marciano would definitely lose to FOTC Ali. And a past his prime Marciano could lose to an in form Bugner. Marciano would probably have more wear and tear than Frazier aswell against all these opponents. He's smaller, cuts easier, and is easier to hit.
