Bump. If you haven’t seen this fight yet do so. A terrific two way brawl that’s arguably the best fight of 1993 alongside Carbajal vs Gonzalez 1, Holyfield vs Bowe 2, Rabanales vs Andújar. Jimenez was a very good operator in his own right and made Mark Johnson work hard for the win. Always wondered why they didn’t do a rematch when it was close enough warrant one, especially after they both flyweight title holders around 1996.
I watched this 4 years ago a great scrap Johnson is one of the most entertaining fighters who fights in a highly skilled manner. Johnson doing what he always does boxing beautifully with amazing quick combinations, but he would often stand his ground and go toe to toe with Jimenez aswell. A close fight very competitive with some great exchanges. I would suggest @Jel @scartissue @salsanchezfan to watch and score this one. Highly entertaining with alot of close rounds will be an interesting one to score for you guys. Johnson for me is one of the most entertaining skillful fighters i've ever seen
I recall having the same scorecard as well, it was that close. This definitely should have called for a rematch but it never came to be. Johnson was a terrific fighter in his prime. Very fun and had elite level boxing skills who sadly didn’t get the chance to show it against the other top fighters. Alberto Jimenez was also a very good fighter himself and had some other very entertaining fights with Jacob Matlala, Arthur Johnson and Muangchai Kittikasem. Check those fights out when you have the time.
