A fight that could have happened around 1990. How do you see Canizales’ chances against the tall, slender, boxing technician who beat his brother Gaby, Wilfredo Vazquez, and Miguel Lora? An interesting tactical affair although I think Perez could have given Canizales the same problems that Junior Jones gave him with that height and reach.

Bump. There should have been a unification bout between these two between 1989-1990, especially after Perez had beaten Orlando’s brother. Would have made for a heated match up. I think their styles would have meshed well together. Curious how Orlando could have handled Perez’s size and skills.

Perez didn't always use his advantages to best effect.
If Canizales, with his movement, could get Perez turning and punching down at him, he would hit Perez with some serious right hands, and that would open up his left hook.
If Perez can get the center of the ring and maintain distance and make Canizales pay to get close- by using uppercuts and going to the body- he should have a good night. I saw Perez fight a few times and, off the top of my head, I don't remember him using his height like he could have.

Perez didn't fight tall and also was inclined to fight close at times. Greg Richardson exposed that flaw in Perez and was able to outbox him clearly. Canizales could certainly do the same as well and outbox him in spots. But as Perez had shown against Miguel Lora he's capable of making good use of his reach that can trouble Canizales the same way Jones did.
