What happened with Foreman's power after 1994?

Moorer’s chin was that bad.

 

It went away during the layover between the Schulz and Grimsley fight. The same way Louis's did over a similar duration break.

Foreman claimed to have lost his power earlier on but that it came back for the Coetzer fight.

Like dmt said he could hit very hard but the ability to get people down and out is very mechanical in nature and isn't just "boom he hits hard down goes Frazier".

 

He became slower and found it harder to land cleanly on guys.

Foreman remained extremely heavy handed. Briggs clearly respected his power and was afraid of attacking him as recklessly as he attacked others in general.

 

This. Foreman was never the fastest fighter but he became glacial towards the end of his career. Sure, if he hit you he was gonna shake you down to your boots, but people could generally see his shots coming. As they say, it's the punch you don't see that knocks you out.

 

I've said this numerous times but Morrison made an interesting point about Foreman's power.

He said he felt the power but Foreman only landed single punches on him and was was never able to land the follow up.

He also said because Foreman was slow he was able to anticipate the punches and we all know the worst punches are the ones you don't see coming.

So I think that pretty much sums it up.

Foreman was still heavy handed but had lost his speed and the ability to land the follow up punches against better opposition.

 

Foreman said in an interview that fighters in the 70s were much more fearsome than in the 90s with the exception of Holyfield, and that Holyfield could have competed in any era.

I think that implies fighters by the 90s were looking to outbox Foreman rather than press him on the frontfoot and take the fight to him as it was in the 70s.

Moorer was the one he seemed to surprise with those short rights, that didn't look particularly powerful.

 

But surprisingly fast.
