The way Wlad debased and humiliated himself in order to beat Poventkin proves he wouldn't have a hope in hell against Tyson.

Wlad stans , telling on themselves , openly admit his path to victory rests on using his size to back hump and bear grab Tyson.
Because we all know if he went to box with Tyson he'd end up in a crumpled heap in a loss that looked just like the Sanders one.

For Wlad to win his stupid stans have to give every advantage to Wlad and saddle Tyson with every disadvantage.
In a fair match-up Wlad is either DQ'd like Jesse Ferguson was for excessive holding , or he's creamed in a blitz job early.
These are the only two reality based outcomes.

 

And yet the facts are that the clinch is a part of boxing and that many fighters like Ali, Hopkins, Ruiz, Ward etc used it. Certainly Tyson would do better if there was no clinch (and a case can be made that clinching ought not be in boxing at all, and I am sympathetic to that case) but even so his victory is by no means assured. He's still the smaller man trying to get inside on a bigger man whose whole game is to prevent that from happening and who has a vastly greater reach and much lighter feet than Tyson.

 

People always do this with Tyson and its so annoying because they think its some debate killer.

 

Wlad will smother Mike like Bonecrusher, but he will also show some offense.

 

I genuinely think Tyson intimidates Wlad pre-fight and psychologically takes him out his game for a 2 or 3 round win.

 

I think Wlad's chin is too bad for him to win this match up repeatedly. If they fight 3x I'd expect Tyson to take it twice. 10x, Tyson 6x.

I don't agree with the premise of the thread obviously lmao Wlad isn't getting knocked out in round 1 but the margin for error for Wlad is too high imo. I also don't believe Wlad would be psychologically intimated at all tbh with you. People are maybe projecting their own fear of Tyson when they say this? Wlad's a 6'6, 250lbs warrior that's proven to have heart.

Unfortunately however, Wlad IS afraid of his own mediocre chin and fights extremely disciplined and extremely aware of this, which I think is why Tyson takes this. The people that are accusing the pro Tyson people in this thread of being simplistic are also being simplistic on Wlad's behalf. Saying "Tyson knocks him out in one punch" is just as silly as saying "Nah, Wlad clinches... That's it, he wins" lol. In a NEUTRAL setting, Wlad is not going to be able to Povetkin-afy Mike to a W, he'd just get disqualified, wherein lies the problem. Wlad's defence is ridiculously reliant on being the A side, in a way that wouldn't exist in a hypothetical matchup in a neutral setting. They're both atg power punchers, but only one of them has an ATG chin, whilst the others is historically mediocre. Wlad would have to have a pro Wlad referee to allow him to have the perfect performance necessary for him to dominate.

From a matchup standpoint yes Wlad should dominate Tyson, he's tailor made for him. But in a fantasy set up with a NEUTRAL referee that doesn't allow Wlad to clinch literally dozens of times per round and whom dissuades this by deducting points regularly, I don't think his defence nor his chin holds. Wlad is rather poor at actively avoiding punches with parrying or head movement. His defence is jab, long guard, footwork, clinching the first 3 lines of defence of which were penetrated frequently, hence the abundance clinching. Wlad's best opponents closed the distance on him regularly, so Tyson will as well.

When the fastest and hardest hitting fighter he's ever fought closes the distance he's going to have to get his chin checked. Evander Holyfield who has a GOAT chin, got wobbled immediately and had to take some bombs in order for his gameplan to work. Buster Douglas also ate some **** and nearly got knocked out. I really don't think Wlad can withstand the firepower they could. Mike hits much harder, faster and more accurately than Samuel Peter.

That and Tyson at his best had an excellent jab and was a monstrous body puncher.

The only way Wlad wins is by going full octopus, which as I said he wouldn't be allowed to in this hypothetical. Failing that, his reflexes and chin are too poor and his defensive system too breachable for a man as athletic and dynamic as Tyson imo. I think Ali, Holmes and Foreman actually match up better against Tyson than Wlad, as not only am I confident in their chins, I'm confident in THEIR confidence in their chins. They can enact the gameplan Wlad needs to without fear of getting KO'd and without over reliance on the clinch.

 

I don't think Wlad's chin is as bad as you think. He's taken bombs before and gone on. He's been knocked down before and gotten up to win. He's got a lot of heart, he recovers well and he's freaking huge. That said I obviously agree with you that Tyson's chances go up a lot if the referee cracks down on clinching.
