Greater victory: Hearns Over Duran or Wlad over Povetkin?

Duran had proven that he was a legitimate fighter at MW.

He’d done that against Marvin.

He did years later against Barkley.

He wasn’t out of his depth at JMW or MW.

He was only out of his depth against Hearns.


How can it be the Povetkin win anyway, when Wlad couldn’t and wouldn’t legitimately fight him?

He wasn’t even a clean win.

It was an awful win, where he mauled and wrestled him.

It was embarrassing.

This was a prime SHW, who many people claim to be a top 5 ATG HW.

 

The reffing should have pulled up Wlad more but it was 1 sided and Povetkin actually held on allot himself

 

Certainly the Master Class pitched by Wlad over Povetkin, putting down Sasha for the first two times in his career and absolutely dominating the action of the greatest 21st Cen heavy not to win a major title.

You're wrong. In 69 professional fights Wlad has only 2 points deducted for holding. No other ref would have declared a disqualification. He was tagging him plenty.

 

Duran resurrected his career post Laing, most on this forum already know this and why. The information is out there, and in here. While Benitez (at the utter peak of his powers) was simply too good Duran was a different animal when he fought Moore and Hagler and it's brutally easy to see that. He was rolling again. It was a great win for Hearns, and the fact is that no-one KO'd Duran either before or after. We'd only seen a couple of flash KD's against him many years earlier and never seen him truly hurt or struggling. Hearns erased all that many times in a very short space of time. It's not just the result, but the how.

 

Duran was stopped multiple times subsequently

And beating Moore proves what exactly? It's a decent win but nothing spectacular

 

Duran was only really stopped 2 times, one against Joppy, in which he was still conscious on his feet and the other against Hearns, in where his soul was dragged down to hell and then lifted up back to earth.

Him beating Moore proves that he was not done, and it is an spectacular and sensational win, considering the current opinion about Duran at the time and the quality of names Moore beat before and shortly after Roberto took his soul (Mihara, Kalule, Weir, Guiden and Benitez).

 

Hearns KO'd Duran, as i stated. Duran was "stopped" 2 times thereafter. Pat Lawlor landed a freak punch on Duran's shoulder while he himself was punching and injured it. The doctor immediately stopped the fight despite heavy protest from Duran.

The second was more than 14 years after Hearns pole axed Roberto. Duran was 47yo fighting the top #5 title holding Joppy. Duran got belted around for three rounds before he was stopped on his feet. He did not visit the canvas.

Moore was the second best junior middle in the world. He also ran Hagler close next fight, which you omitted.

Boxing really ain't your thing.

Povetkin is probably better than that version of Duran
