Zurdo is a very good fighter who has only lost to a true champion like Bivol (an excellent outboxer, fast and with superb footwork, the best light heavyweight currently in the business and one of the top P4P fighters of the moment). I think Benavidez is the favorite, but not as much as people say, it won't be an easy match for David against Zurdo.

It would also be very interesting if the winner on May 2nd faced Opetaia. Unfortunately we know that Dana White's stupid ideas make organizing this fight practically impossible, a real shame.

Disagree, he's been the most protected fighter in boxing. They wouldn't even allow zurdo to fight chavez jr when he had the belt. I watch quigley, gausha, and Lucias johnson sweep him in sparring multiple time. Benevidez is friends with zurdo. I expect this to be a glorified sparring match where benevidez wins but neither guy looks bad.

He’s one of those who’s more effective than he looks.

Carlos Monzon was another example, although I’m not comparing the 2 fighters.

Even if Opetaia didn't sign with Zuffa, I have / had zero faith Oscar would put Zurdo in with Operaia. Golden Boy would use another mandatory as an excuse or come up with some other fight for Zurdo. I've never once heard him excited about that match and it fits his promotional style which can look like its risk averse and to get his guys vs overmatched opponents generally unless there's Saudi money or his arm is twisted(see Ortiz and Ryan garcia)

I'm still baffled at how he ever squeezed down to 168.

He's underated and overrated. He has a tremendous resume, but he was fortunate to get some of the wins.

Nope, if anything that plodding punching bag was way overrated by his fans.

What a great analysis. Can't come with a better response?

you don’t accomplish what he has if you’re woefully average

losses to generational talents in Bivol and DB

    there’s my analysis

Accomplish? A very well crafted career by Golden boy. He is woefully average. Won't be the first or last time a very average guy with a very well crafted career wins some trinket belts, Barrios comes to mind.

It isn't how he lost. Bivol schooled him. Benavidez destroyed him.
