At such a young age, had Benavidez proven to be in the same class as Moore, Ward, and Ezzard Charles

Charles was already the light heavyweight GOAT with a legendary resume by the time he was 27, two years younger than Benavidez. Moore had a much stronger resume by 29 aswell. Ward is out of place next to the other two, with all due respect to his still very strong career.

Benavidez maybe has done more than Ward did at his age, but Ward had still cemented himself as a top 3 super middle of all time by 29.

 

David Benavidez is very good, but he's not as complete nor as proven as Charles and Moore.

But Benavidez has already done more than Andre Ward, who relied heavily on home advantage and corrupt officials. Ward never won a belt at cruiserweight.

 

I like Benavidez, I was at the fight last night, and think he’s great but even though he’s a 3 weight division Champ he hasn’t fought the best in those divisions. It’s not his fault, but I think it’s a little early to call him an ATG. Beating Plant, Yard and Zurdo is not the same as beating Canelo, Bivol and Opetaia.

 

Benavidez is the goods and clearly an elite P4P fighter but let’s not go too far with that take. He’s not in the same league as those ATGs you just mentioned.

Benavidez has never beaten the best guy in any division he has competed in.

 

Because they ducked him.

 

Ward winning that SMW tournament against very good competition and then dominating Kovalev in their rematch I believe is better than anything Benavidez accomplished and I’m a fan of Benavidez who much more of a dominant fighter.

Ward had the privilege of HOME ADVANTAGE for all his Super Six fight, so he could use illegal tactics like head butts, low blows and hitting while holding. He was permitted to SKIP A ROUND during the series, and got points for that round despite not fighting.

Dawson was badly weight-drained at 168 after years of fighting at 175, if Ward was a decent man he would have fought him at 175.

Kovalev was clearly robbed in the first fight, his titles were STOLEN. And he and was stopped by LOW BLOWS in the second fight. That was the first and only low blow TKO I've ever seen.

Ward was a mediocre boxer without dishonest officials, and the dirtiest boxer I've ever seen.

Benavidez is a real ring warrior, he doesn't need illegal tactics and dishonest officials to win.

 

The only place that Ward would have a clear advantage in America is the Bay Area. Other that there, it would be neutral ground and his most dangerous opponents , Abraham and Froch were matched in other metropolitan regions.

Ward-Kovalev I was close and could’ve gone either way but it was no robbery and the cries of low blows from the second fight is bull crap. They were body blows that did not land below the belt line. On top of that, what led up to the stoppage was Ward rocking his jaw send him stumbling. Ward beat Kovalev’s azz that night.

 

This is ridiculous. Charles at Benavidez's age was already a lock for top 10 all-time.
