At such a young age, had Benavidez proven to be in the same class as Moore, Ward, and Ezzard Charles

Benavidez has yet to win a real world championship.

But he has a solid resume.

Ward is all wrong for Benavidez - and I'm a Ward hater. Benavidez showed glimpses of being bothered by counter-punching versus Morrell. Ward is much more complete and wouldve made Benny second guess himself

    This is very true

Missed weight at 168lbs and didn't fight for a belt. Technically didnt win anything off a champion. Someone correct me if I am wrong

"Won" a vacant belt at 175lbs at Bivol was stripped

Elbowed his way into two belts at CW against a squared up, stationary fight who doesn't seem like the brightest bulb out there tbh

Want to see Bivol, Beterbiev or Opateia before we talk about true legitimacy

Great story though. Boxing needs to manufacture stars and this is the way to do it

He just won 2 real belts yesterday. He also won the WBC belt twice at 168. Do you even watch boxing?

Did you fail geography in school?

Ward only fought in his home country - he refused to travel to Europe because he needed dishonest referees to allow him to use illegal tactics and judges to bail him out of fights he lost like Kovalev I.

He was no ring warrior like Usyk, who won all his big fights outside of Ukraine.

I was talking real championships not belts.
Canelo was the super middle champ.Ducked him but so that goes.
At light heavy it was between Bivol and Beterbiev
At cruiser Opetaia is the champ.
    Zero championships.3-4 paper titles.

wtf is so special about Zurdo that beating him warrants such nauseating amounts of hype? Every single thread I see about Benavidez is someone saying that he'd have a chance at beating Roy Jones, Vassily Jirov, and George Foreman in the same night. Bivol never got this kind of hype for beating Zurdo.

Ward Kovalev 1 was not close. Worst robbery of the last 30 years imo

Bwa ha ha ha! That's gotta be the nonsense of the day  Why not make the argument that fighting out of Oakland was basically an away match for Ward? I mean that's basically where we are going. As for Kovalev, American judges are not known for being especially generous to Soviet region boxers.

Oh, I could bring up some other bad ones. But, I'm not arguing with you: Kovalev got shafted in that one alright.

Naw man, Ward went out of Oakland that one time, to collect furniture. Uncle Beetus stamped his passport at the end of Ward's driveway and all.

Benavidez needs to go Lineal in at least one weight division to be considered a top shelf guy.

Plenty of options for him - Crawford at Super Middle, Bivol at Light Heavy, Opetaia at Cruiser or Usyk at Heavyweight. None of them easy but that's why going Lineal is a more significant career achievement than collecting alphabet belts.

Let's be honest, In 3 divisions, David has never beaten anyone higher than top 3-5 at the time that he fought them (the highest being Plant at SMW). Beating a not really very good Zurdo at CW (who is also a natural SMW) means that he is in the highest tier of boxers in history? Seriously????? Now I will say he likely would've beaten Canelo, so that is something I don't fault him for. He's not beating Bivol or Beterbiev (unless Beterbiev has finally aged out). He definitely ain't beating Opetaia. I legit question if he could beat the one Polish guy (who's name I can't recall ). Anyone who is his size and actually has skill (unliked Zurdo), he's gonna have problems with, just like he did late with Gvodzyk (damn the scorecards).

I think Benavidez is a legit specimen but Jesus, y'all need to stop, really

This comparison must be a joke. Benavidez never was a clear top guy in the division, never beaten a clear number 1 guy in the division and never won the real championship in the divisions he boxed in. He's exciting to watch and a damn good boxer, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
