He said he was 39 ,his Mother said he was 41. Two thirds of Moore's kos are over .1Scrubs.2. middles and lhvy's
I believe Fury hits as hard as Walcott and Moore.
Name a fighter either ko'd that Fury couldn't?
I don't believe Beterbiev hits as hard as the current version of Usyk and Beterbiev is on video stating he would not fight Usyk because Usyk is now too big for him!
Usyk is too STRONG- Beterbiev BRUTALLY HONEST on a possible Usyk fight!

    Sir, this needs saying.

You're taking these cross era fantasy fights far, far too seriously.

The point should be made, that there wee plenty of big heavyweights around in Marciano's era, it was just that the little guys kept beating them when it mattered.

The same is true of the era that Marciano picked up the torch from, and the Paterson era.

Not one promotor thought of trying to find a guy who was just too big for Marciano or Patterson, and then trying to get him a title shot by careful match making.

Which big heavyweights of any class?
Or do you mean Valdes who,at the end of 1953 and1954, was the number one contender.and some how never got a shot at Rocky?

Do you think that Marciano ducked Valdez, or did he just end up fighting the man who beat him?

You’re confusing the naturally weighted men of the 50s with roided up competition. It’s a silly debate. Valdez weights 230 today instead of 210. These people you think are naturally 6”5 250 didn’t exist often because it’s not natural to weigh that much while doing a normal healthy diet and cardio. Steroids allow it now. Valdez got whooped by Satterfield and Moore in between fights and lost his claim to a shot. He didn’t earn it and I imagine if he took that fight instead of Moore people today would be calling him a ducker.

I guarantee that when prime Fury dug down on his punches he hit harder than Walcott and Moore. Walcott is just a B-level fighter, so throw him out of the discussion. But did prime Charles hit more precise, with better selection and timing than Fury? Possibly, in a pound for pound sense. But relative speaking, a true heavyweight would much prefer getting hit by Moore than by Fury when Fury is throwing for power.

    Who were they then?

The big guys from the 20s-30s seem more well known than guys from Rock's era.

The size of skilled HWs increased in the 60s and we saw another jump in the 90s to today. The tall guys Rocky fought seemed to be literal no names lost in the archives, as if the basis of this thread.

Valdes earned his title shot when he beat the number one contender Ezzard Charles
I think his management ducked Valdes.
From the 18th of July1953 until the 2nd of May 1955 Valdes was unbeaten in11 fights with 7 of them coming inside the distance. Among those he beat were
    Agramonte
    Doc Williams
    Charles
    Neuhaus
    Sys
    Jackson
The bottom 4 were all Ring ranked.
Valdes was the number one contender for nearly 2 years!
Moore didn't assume Valdes' number one position until he beat him in May 55 in a very close fight.
"In the rough battle, referee Jim Braddock took one round away from each battler because of low blows. There were no knockdowns but each was knocked back onto his heels several times during the exciting slugging match. Archie Moore was bleeding from the nose and mouth at the finish, and his left eye also was swollen. But he could see very well. Nino Valdes forced the fighting in nearly every round and tried to impale his bobbing-weaving opponent with long left jabs and whistling rights. In the 13th session, Nino's left eye was closed tightly shut and he fought on half-blinded and fatigued. Moore's superiority in the 14th and 15th rounds clinched the fight and gave Moore his 20th straight victory." - United Press
During this time Marciano defended twice against the man Valdes had beaten Charles, and Lastarz who two fight earlier ,had been knocked down and beaten by journeyman LhvyRocky Jones both Charles and Lastarza were ranked below Valdes.
    That's a duck!

it's not a given that TF beats Marciano, no, not a given at all, but a likelihood, as with all the Giants, subpar as most of them are.

He, Fury and the other S-HWs, between Height, Reach, weight & strength, TF and the other Cumbersome loafs, 8 out of 10 times, if not more, can & probably will 'spoil' out a Win.

that is why I have stated numerous times the S-HW's should be the 1st ever Division in Boxing that comes with a HEIGHT stipulation i.e. 6'5" plus and 225 or 230lbs weight starting point.

leave them too themselves and let the rest Boxing carry on as usual, preferable with no more than 12 Divisions.

If you had say 80 active fighters 215 + and 6 1+ as opposed to say 800 which era do you think would probably have the better big men? Thats all we re saying the big guys in Marcianos era were almost all inferior fighters. A couple might have been pretty good and rarely someone very good. In the more modern eras your going to have many good some very good a few great big men.
The reason why there are so many more big men ie peds etc is a totally different debate. Start a separate thread to debate that.

No Valdez lost to Satterfield who was then beaten by Charles losing his rank. He wasn’t this unstoppable force for two years. Moore was clearly the better fighter he beat him twice.although for money purposes they prob did prefer Charles. Nino wasn’t a draw.
