Brace for Reality When it Comes to Benevidez

As much as I'm wary of hype jobs. What I will say about Benavidez is that he is actually a proven fighter who has beaten well some good fighters.

We need to see Benavidez V Opetaia this year.

 

I think he could legitimately beat Opetaia and Bivol having watched how completely he dismantled a veteran big ass cruiser who is almost the size of Usyk. Zurdo is 6’2.5” and water weight cuts to hit 200 even. Zurdo is probably 215 on fight night. Just saying — he’s close to Usyk in size.

Skinny looking arms aside, damn did Benavidez’s power seem to carry. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t hit harder than Usyk. And that accuracy, work rate, insane hand speed, and combos.

he’s a serious danger to anyone at 175 or 200. And hell, I’ll just say it, I think he may be able to cause Usyk some real issues.

 

David was apparently 204 on fight night, Zurdo was more like 230. He is skinny armed but has that fat boy power.

 

the skinny arms don’t seem to matter for ****. Zurdo is a longtime veteran and proven as being real durable. And Benavidez constantly hurt him every time he connected with power shots, and his combos were lethal.

He got Zurdo to flat out quit. That’s insane. Look at Zurdo’s record. He’s no quitter.

 

Hes going back down to 175 and has the potential to rule for a long time. He might not we don't know the future but his window is wide open. Its his time. Hes younger then Beterbiev and Bivol and has more experience at the top flight then the next generation. We could be here awhile.

I was high on Benavidez before this fight and the Ramirez win changes nothing for me. This was my opinion before and this is my opinion after.

 

Disregarding the Zuffa bull****, Jai and Turki want the Opetaia vs Benavidez fight to happen; therefore, so does Dana, and Benavidez obviously wants it to. As long as The Ring belt is on the line, then it may as well be for all 4 belts.

I honestly think Benavidez is too big for Bivol now, and the Jai fight is a genuine 50/50. Now that Inoue has faced Nakatani, Benavidez vs Jai could be the biggest and best fight there is. I would not be surprised if Jai lost to David; he is an absolute menace, and it has FOTY written all over it. Would much rather see it than Inoue vs Bam.

 

A couple things.

I love this site, but don't get some of the posters. Dude puts on fun fights against good opposition. Why do some people not enjoy that? He's a unique talent with an interesting skill set. Of course you wouldn't train someone to fight like him, but one of the joys of boxing is seeing these anomaly types of fighters appear and disrupt the norm. I'm not saying winning against Zurdo is the greatest achievement ever, but it is certainly impressive all things considered.

Also, the guy isn't visually or personality-wise that marketable. There probably is a decent chance he gets paired in tough fights, otherwise he won't sell in the way someone like Canelo or Mayweather would.

But whatever... I guess this is why young people came up with the term 'hater'.

 

Agree with most of this.

Don't think Benavidez is too big for Bivol though. He's not a water weight bully. He moves up by putting on fat. An in shape Benavidez with a low body fat percentage is no cruiserweight.

Also, I wanna see Inoue vs Bam as much as Benavidez vs Jai. Both should heppen.

 

Yeah, that's fair. I think the way Benavidez has carried his power and speed up to cruiserweight could pose issues for him if he wants to move back down to fight Bivol, though. If Bivol moves up to CW, then we've got an amazing group of fights between Jai, Bivol and Benavidez in the pipeline.

Crazy how benavidez gets this stick when he’s actually beat some decent in form fighters and opetaia is like this mythical force off the back of some really obscure opponents
