Who had been ko'd in one round by Walcott in his previous fight!
He had won 1 of his last 3,and 2 of his last 7 fights,he had one more fight after Rocky, 4 years later and retired. He beat Mauriello on a cut eye, Tami was so incensed he took a swing at the referee! Fringe contender with over half of his fights losses?
    I don't think so!

Well, he would be, that's why H2H comparisons across the eras are stupid. He beat bigger guys in his own era. That's all that matters.

Beating bigger guys isnt the criteria ,it's how good they were!

Comparing fighters across eras is the whole reason we debate. It’s the reason a forum 24 exists for boxing.
It’s what people are fascinated with. Who cares if it’s difficult to figure out and ultimately there is no way prove it we re not curing childhood cancer here! We do this for the FUN OF IT and nothing more.

You guys can do better then this. Theres a truck load of examples from the early 20th century.

    Reach is also a thing.

Moorer was 6'2"and weighed 225lbs for that fight. That's big enough for anyone. Before 1970 How many heavyweight champs weighed that?
    Carnera
    Willard

    Who else?
If weight isnt important, why did Moorer add that to his frame?
Why did the following also do exactly the same?
    Spinks
    Holyfield
    Haye
    Byrd
    Usyk

Great analysis I ll add: maybe if Rocky or Dempsey etc get roided up maybe they start pulling ligaments and tendons like happens to many Baseball and Football players. The connective tissue can’t keep up with the muscles happens to some. Also they could be eliminated just based on not being at the top of the genetic pool of talent as they were in 1920 and 1950. Why because US and world pops were:
    1920 - 106 mil 1.8 bil
    1950 - 152 2.5
    1987 - 242.3 5.0
    2024 - 341 8.1
So the genetic pool was smaller which means there will be less chance there will be talented candidates.

Making him and entirely appropriate test for young up-and-comer.

Lastarz was a good fighter. He was much better than Don but met him when his career was done. Watch Lastarza v Layne. You really see his skill on display. I used to hold your opinion of him till I watched all of his fights. Skilled fighter.

Why would he be 220 today? That's 35 pounds over his prime weight. He had no frame for that kind of weight, bird chested and short limbed, and relied on his flexibility to bend and dip, an ability that would be greatly diminished at that size. Not to mention his legendary gas tank would be gone. That leaves him being a stubby, even easier to hit fireplug with no reach who would have to pace himself.
