Yes. If someone ranks on fantasy h2h, they of course have every right to do so. But to keep on about how Charles and his opp wouldn't stand a chance in this century to someone who has clearly stated that he ranks on what he did in his own time....

    Just weird.

Well, we can and should challenge the quality of Charles' opposition contextually but, even then, I would suggest that the beating of both Louis and Walcott are of notable value. I'd also suggest that wins against Elmer Ray, Jimmy Bivins, Joey Maxim, and Rex Layne carry a fair bit of weight, and even his 15-round decision loss to Marciano is not without significance in terms of quality performances.

It is a tad more difficult to extract the same kind of significance from Wlad's resume, as I see it.

I agree on Ali and Louis probably being 1 and 2. After that I really struggle to come up with any type of extended list let alone in order but my gut feeling leans to Holmes next.

If only Wlad had got Vitali on his resume I would possibly put him there instead but obviously that wasn't gonna be realistic for obvious reasons.

If Wlad had Vitali on his resume he would be a GOAT candidate.

Best wins of Wlad's career don't have historical values of Louis' and Walcott's names, but you could argue guys like Byrd and Povetkin were better fighters than the versions of Louis and Walcott that Charles beat. Besides that you have Haye, Pulev, Chagaev, Ibragimov who I think were better HWs than the fighters you mentioned. His effort against prime AJ at the age of 41 is also not without significance in terms of quality performances. Overall, I think accumulated accolades and resume make Wlad a greater HW than Charles was.

Vitali can't possibly be that big a scalp. I've barely ever seen him in a top 15 and he's nowhere near a top 10.

I've gone back and forth who should be rated higher in regards to Lewis/Holmes and i have Holmes slightly ahead of Lewis overall.

Holmes has 20 world title wins compared to 15 for Lewis.

Holmes had 17 wins overall against top 10 ranked opposition.

Lewis had 15 wins overall against top 10 ranked opposition.

There's not alot to split them but there is 1 big deciding factor IMO.

Holmes never lost in his prime where as Lewis in his prime suffered two 1 punch stoppage losses to B class Heavyweights.

Holmes had his Rahman/McCall moments vs Shavers/Snipes and he passed the test where as Lewis didn't.

And that for me is quite a big thing which is why i give the edge to Holmes.

Even though Lewis fought slightly better opposition overall.

I got him in my Top 25. But it's a big enough of a scalp to boost already great resume of Wlad. It would also add the accolade of being the fully unified 4 belt champion.

You missed guys from the bottom of the Top 10: Leroy Jones, Scott LeDoux and Marvis Frazier. And Williams wasn't Top 10 when he faced Holmes.

Oh I didn't include Leroy Jones ? I did misplace that name my mistake.

Was Scott LeDoux ranked ? I didn't know.

Marvin Frazier aswell ? That does surprise me.

I'm pretty sure Carl Williams might of sneaked in the top 10 are you sure on that ?

Yeah, I was recently digging around in The Ring archives and took the most recent ratings before every fight. Williams was 14th if my memory is correct. Frazier and LeDoux were both number 10 rated contenders.

In my opinion, the name you mention with the highest value to Wlad's historical status is Byrd. Chagaev and Povetkin come next, and the Povetkin win has an asterisk against it (in an unseemly shade of red).

The problem with the other names you bring up is that they have little to nothing in their ledgers to justify an opinion that they were better than the fighters I mentioned. Certainly not in a clean-sweep sense.

I don't place an asterisk over that win just like I don't place asterisk over Jack Johnson's wins when he was hugging opponents to death. Or over Ali's win in the Frazier rematch.

The names I mentioned where rated higher in their respective era as HWs than the guys you mentioned in theirs.
