Arguments on this matter can be made both ways. Those touting Usyk as GOAT HW will argue that his multiple fights against the top tier make up for the absence of several "second tier " belthoders/contenders like Parker, Kayabel, Zhang, Wilder, etc.

Those who think lack of depth shows a real important gap Usyk will clearly have when compared to others in the GOAT conversation will say this clearly matters.

    And the debate goes on.....

I wouldn't say Fabio was uncompetitive. He still managed to put Dubios on his ass twice and still was able to hurt Dubios even when he was absolutely shattered himself.

Odd that Wardley couldn't knock Parker down though, I half-expected that to happen. I guess styles make fights.

Fair point. Activity will also play a role here, and whoever eventually beats Usyk will undoubtedly raise even more questions

Fabio is essentially the UKs version of Wilder, and Dubios isn't exactly a boxing savant to begin with.

I hope not. We don't need to see Dubios take another knee.

There is no debate, except among younger fans that don't have reference to what the sport is supposed to be. It all changed with Holmes. There was a time when Larry Holmes' 20 defenses were looked at as shameful because there were so many names like Ledux and Zanon on there, when it was missing so many names like Page and Thomas, and no title unifications. That all changed in the 90s, when younger fans wanted to redefine Holmes as a first-tier great. Suddenly, quantity of names counted for more than quality of names, unifications, and undisputed status.

It is a joke. I declare again...anyone who is saying that he should have been fighting footnotes like Joyce, Zhang and Hrgovic when he could have been and was fighting great series agains the best is be-clowning themselves.

Last thought--IT IS TO USYK'S LEGEND THAT HE HAS ONLY HAD A HANDFUL OF HEAVYWEIGHT OPPONENTS. It's all he needed. He spent most of his career at cruiser, yawned, stretched, and dominated the heavies. He didn't need the 20 fights again guys like Ledux, Zanon, Piantea, Mavrovic, Bert Cooper, Breazele, etc. He just walked in the room, announced himself, and dominated the best. All of those out there who don't count the cruiserweight fights or cry about his dearth of heavyweight opponents aren't getting that. According to their own math, he is bossing the division with two appropriate warm-up fights. Yeah---ok. AWESOME!

That all goes out the window when you have Usyk avoiding mandatories in order to fight a non-boxer for a title defense while already being incredibly inactive. Is this sport just supposed to be cherry-picking your opponents once a year when you've only beaten 5 guys?

Having a solid run doesn't give you license to take the **** and still expect to be in the same conversation as guys who fought far more often and have greater resume depth.

Beating two different fringe top 10 guys just doesn't equate to beating a single top 2 guy, let alone doing it twice. Beating Ali and Lewis four times would count for vastly more than beating Shavers, Quarry, Ruddock and Morrison. A fighter who did the former would be considered the best ever by many (or certainly way up there), a fighter who did the latter would be regarded as merely "good".

Usyk also has added depth in his GOAT cruiser run, which in historical terms were 70's/80's size HW fighters.

Rubbish. Beating the same guy twice has about as much value as beating him once. You're the better fighter, time to move on and fight the other contenders.

"It all goes out the window" as if Usyk hasn't had one of the best runs in the history of the sport. lol no.

The kickboxer fight is a joke. But this is at an age (39 and four months) where no other reigning Ring HW champ has ever recorded a win. And many other far younger HW champs had novelty fights. Usyk seems to want to go on after this and if he beats Kabayel or another contender at an even more advanced age, it adds further to his legacy.

Uysk is the best in the heavyweight division, but he needs to retire. It's partially his fault the division is slow. Vacate belts and enjoy being an ATG Hall of Famer.

    Hahahahaha

McCall and Rahman would have loved that to be true. So would Holyfield vis a vis Bowe.

It also wasn't Usyk's fault he had to sign rematch clauses against massive A-side fighters. It just speaks to his greatness that he overcame those odds, because no other HW has done so.

He gave up the belt. There was no problem there at all.

Nor dos anything "go out the window." His accomplishments are his accomplishments.
