That was the Lidocaine injection. Golota won a 7 figure settlement over it. You could tell he wasn't right before he entered the ring and he has said as much.

The cause of his collapse was never proven in court.

The award was not won. Golota and the doctor in question settled out of court for what is reported to have been around one million.

Golota had agency in this episode. He asked for the treatment and wanted it kept secret.

Lidocaine toxicity typically presents much more rapidly than that claimed by Golota.

Speculating that Golota wasn't right before the fight and taking Golota's word for it is a stretch.

Much more likely that Lewis did the damage that triggered a reaction – which Golota later blamed on the injection.

The doctor, Dr. Katzman settled out of court for 7 figures. That mean's the Doctor's insurance premiums will go through the roof, not to mention the bad publicity to his practice. Settling out of court, is an indicator that had it dragged on, Golota's Doctor would have lost millions more. I'm not speculating, I'm going on Golota's word, and the fact he was awarded 7 figures as a result of the Lidocaine injection. It's far less likely that Lewis's punches caused the reaction that Golota suffered.

Yes "one million" is seven figures, right?

Any case that 'drags on' costs more money. Legal fees tend to accumulate over time.

Settlement is not an admission of guilt. It's more an exercise in risk management.

You think the impact of increased premiums is bad. This is next to nothing compared to the catastrophe that would have befallen Doctor Katzman had a jury found for Golota. A sympathetic jury watching poor old Golota getting smashed might have been enough to sway them. This becomes a very much heightened risk in the context of the treatment having been given illicitly in the first place.

Settlement was immeasurably better than risking a hostile jury.

Conversely, if Golota was so confident in his case, for which he was asking $21M, why did he agree to settle for less than 5% of what he'd initially claimed for? The plaintiff has to weigh up the risk as well. In this case, the burden of proof was heavy for Golota.

By the way, when I asserted that taking Golota's word for it is a stretch, I was not referring to the amount he settled for. It was in response to you stating this: "
    This content is protected
    "

I mean, what possible reason would Golota have had to make up such tales of suffering?

As it stands, it is an absolute FACT that the case was NOT proven in court.

Lidocaine toxicity is quite rare, especially in cases where the point of local administration is in the knee?

Post-fight locker room collapses, by comparison, are far more common. I mean, statistically, the gap between the potential causes here is massive. So, the probabilities greatly favor it being the punches he took from Lewis that triggered a reaction.

The Doctor settled out of court for seven figures he obviously felt he could and would lose. Otherwise you don’t throw away money. Lidocaine can cause seizures, and has caused seizures in cases, whether rare or not. You don’t settle if you can win. Golota said he felt woozy and in a dream like state after the shot was administered to his knee. To me, and many others, he didn’t look right entering the ring. If that’s a stretch to you to each their own. The only Fact that matters is Golota was awarded 7 figures for what transpired.

I don't buy it that Lewis was the smartest heavyweight, or thereabouts.

But he would have Dubois like this "???". yes, brutal KO..

Settling out of court is a two-way agreement. Specifically, it is not an admission of liability. This is an embedded principle in law.

So, why did Golota settle if he could win?

Not apparent on film; not medically relevant; No testimony was given under oath.

Golota appeared able to understand questions being put to him by Merchant in the post-fight interview and responded clearly.
During that same interview, he mentioned the "pressure" and being "too nervous". He was clearly upset by the feeling that he'd let his team down.

There are no reports of Golota describing any other symptoms associated with lidocaine toxicity.

As already explained, Golota was not "awarded" anything, nor did he win anything. Both parties agreed to settle.

The only fact that matters is that Lewis destroyed Golota in 95 seconds.

    Lewis W KO 1

Lewis would likely do something very similar to Dubois.

You can bloviate all you want. Doctor's don't settle if they think they can win. Only a fool gives away free money. As for Golota most people that bring a lawsuit settle for less than what they asked for, you ask for the moon and settle on an agreeable amount to you, it's how settlements work. Ask Chuck Wepnar. Cheers

    Right. So... ...according to you...

    1. Defendants only settle when they know they’ll lose.

    2. Plaintiffs settle because that’s how settlements work.

That isn't how 'settlement' is understood legally. (And it really isn't difficult to understand.)

By your logic, every defendant who settles is guilty or liable, while every plaintiff who settles is just hedging. Way to go on your one-way oversimplification of a legal process. *SMFH

You're really not very good at this, so you should never ever be tempted to give legal advice to anyone. And if you ever need legal advice yourself, then try to listen to your lawyer without accusing him of bloviating or just thinking you know better.

    Cheers.

Lennox would repeatedly catch Dubois coming in with his telephone pole jab, badly busting up his face, and forcing him to stop coming forward. Then Lennox would decide to stop playing around, set up a right cross, and that would be all she wrote. Not competitive at all.

You remind me of a dribbling Chris Byrd, arguing with the Ref after Ibeabuchi wrecked him.

Please keep embarrassing yourself. It's a source of much mirth to me.
