It is obvious after today's fight that a Wardley bout would have been a complete waste of time for Usyk. Usyk spent a lot of time in the amateurs ensuring he achieved a distinguished career, which has limited his opportunities in the professional ranks. However, he has achieved so much more than anyone could have expected, except for those wanting him to fail.

After all the boxing corruption with the likes of Floyd and Canelo, this achievement has been so many levels better than the marketed GOATs of recent times, relying on referees and every other trick in the book, including PEDs, to maintain their "record".

More of a waste of time than Rico?

Honestly, YDKSAB. Usyk clearly destroys Parker and Wardley, and almost certainly, he destroys Kabayel. Why? Because Kabayel cannot maintain the required stamina to be competitive.

Well unfortunately for all of us who don't just want to take your word on it, until Usyk actually gets into the ring with someone he either hasn't already beaten/a pointless exhibition we'll never know.

We had this stupid "well no point fighting xyz because he'd beat them" with Fury, it's just sad seeing people just accept it at face value for Usyk as well.

Yeah, you can't really fault anything he did up to and including Dubpis 2. Still hope to see him against Kabayel, though, but very understandable if he retires.

lol so is Usyk going to have to KO Dubois a third time now?

Dubois shouldn’t take the fight if Usyk offers it. No point. He’s a serious danger to everybody else, be happy with that.

god I wanted Wardley to win, but DDD impressed the hell out of me.

Usyk's track record at heavyweight has been stellar up until this bout against Verhoeven. I even felt he deserved a soft touch after so many tough bouts, but a soft touch doesn't mean a man with zero pro fights in the sport. For someone with an extremely limited time remaining in their career, i was disappointed in Usyk's choice of opponent later this month. After this fight, assuming he doesn't retire, he needs to fight Kabayel next, and not waste more time now on someone like Wilder or someone else off the scrap heap.

First and foremost, let’s be honest with ourselves: if Usyk turns down a fight, it’s certainly not because he’s afraid of any particular boxer or thinks he might lose.

It is simply the exhaustion of a man who has seen it all in boxing and has overcome every possible obstacle. He just doesn’t see a legitimate challenge in any of the current contenders. Dubois was his last meaningful challenge, primarily due to his team’s trash-talking and Usyk’s desire to prove that the low blow in their first fight didn't bring Dubois even a step closer to a fair boxing victory.

Naturally, a kickboxer doesn't serve as a motivator for him; Usyk doesn't view him as a real competitor. Other factors are likely at play here—perhaps financial incentives, perhaps a genuine respect for his achievements in kickboxing, or maybe other, less obvious reasons.

Many commenters here only follow the heavyweights, so they mistakenly believe Usyk came out of nowhere and hasn't achieved much. In reality, he has been in boxing for over 20 years. He became an Olympic champion 14 (!) years ago and has an immense amateur record—opponents have stepped into the ring against him over 350 times. He became the king of the two heaviest divisions, defeated all his main rivals in their own backyards, collected every single belt, and topped the P4P rankings... It’s hard to even imagine a new challenge for him.

And then someone like Kiwi Casual pops up, saying: "Usyk is ducking a fight with Parker/Wardley/Hrgovic/Kabayel/WHATEVER-HIS-NAME-IS!" They ask, "How can this be? He chose a kickboxer when he’s obligated to prove his worth against young contenders!"

I don't personally approve of Usyk’s choice for his next opponent. But I understand that, in truth, he doesn't care. To him, any of the aforementioned boxers are perceived much like Rico Verhoeven—someone to whom bookmakers wouldn't give even a 10% chance of winning. Unfortunately, Usyk has effectively "completed" the game called Boxing, and at this moment, the game has nothing left to offer him as a real challenge. Only time will eventually defeat him.

The most sensible thing for him would be to vacate the belts and simply do whatever he wants—expand his media presence, go into coaching, or do exhibition bouts. I’m certain he will be in demand in any capacity. Regardless, Usyk has already stated he will have no more than three fights before retiring. I suppose we’ll just have to sit through them as a tribute and a reward to Usyk for his legendary career.

Usyk beating Dubois for the 2nd time was a really good win

Firstly, there was the controversy of the 1st fight and a coordinated campaign by Team Dubois and the British boxing media to try and delegitimize the win and defame Usyk as some kind of cheater which Usyk wanted to put to bed and had he not done so many would've always held it against him

And let's not forget Dubois crashed his post-fight interview in front of an audience of millions worldwide demanding his 'rightful' opportunity to avenge the ''robbery'' in the 1st fight

Secondly, the rematch was 2 years later, Dubois had 2 more years of experience at the highest level under his belt, Usyk was 38 y/o, 2 years older than he was in the 1st fight, and had been in B2B tough 12 rounders vs Greedy Belly, and Dubois was coming off 3 excellent KO/stoppage wins over former champ AJ who whilst having been stopped x 1 had never been knocked out before, undefeated Hrgovic who arguably has the best chin in the division, and an undefeated Miller who might have the 2nd best chin in the division.

Yes, the controversy with all the billy goat butts vs Hrgovic marred the win but Dubois overcame adversity in that fight and vs Miller too and both AJ and Hrgovic were ranked #3 and #5 respectively and Miller must've been ranked just outside of the top 10 and, as with Hrgovic, it's still the only blemish on his record to this day outside of the subsequent draw vs Fat Andy which pretty much everyone felt Miller won. No matter how you try and spin it that was an excellent 3 fight run and to win them all via stoppage was highly impressive

And lastly, Usyk didn't just beat the much younger, fresher, bigger and more powerful savage punching Dubois he's moseyed into his backyard at 38 y/o on a deck stacked against him he knocked him out in emphatic KO of the Year contender type fashion

How many HW champions can you think of who have taken their belts on the road at Usyk's age into the backyard of a much younger, fresher, bigger KO 95% savage puncher, let alone knocked them the beep out in HL reel fashion? Give me names?

And lastly, regardless of what transpired in the 1st fight, everytime you step foot into a ring with a savage puncher like Dubois, let alone whilst conceding that much size, youth and home advantage, you're having to traverse a minefield and or playing a round of Russian roulette and you don't need me to tell you that if you have to cross a minefield twice the risk of losing a limb or your life is that much higher than doing so once as is obviously playing 2 rounds of Russian roulette or 1 with 2 bullets in the chamber

We have many champions and greats who have barely fought any KO artists or legit bangers or ones their size, let alone fought ones much bigger, younger, and fresher than them in their backyards who sport a ridiculously high KO95%

FTR, Dubois has KO'd or stopped every man he's beaten sans Kevin Johnson and that was almost 8 years ago when Dubois was 21 y/o

He hasn't been taken the distance since 2018 and on that run he's KO'd or stopped

Former champ 2 x three-belt unified champ AJ who was ranked #3

WBO champ/iron man Fabio who was ranked #2

Undefeated iron man Hrgovic who was ranked #5

Undefeated iron man Miller who literally weighed almost 100lbs more than hiM

World class 28-1 Lerena who has beaten some pretty good fighters, was a very good CW, and came within a whisker of KO'ing Huni, lasted the distance vs the huge punching Okolie, and obviously had Dubois in a lot of trouble

An unbeaten Trevor Bryan who whilst not world class Dubois did get him out of their in spectacular fashion

Dubois is the only human being in the history of our species to stop Hrgovic, Fabio, Miller, Lerena no one else has stopped any of those guys

And the only one who has KO'd AJ

And Dubois only losses are on a serious eye injury vs Big Joe Joyce in a fight Dubois was ahead on 2 of the judge's cards and we've never seen Big Joe turn into a safety-first boxer that wary of any of his opponent's power before

And to P4P#1, the greatest HW of this generation, GOAT Usyk who literally hasn't lost a fight since 2009, almost 17 years, despite fighting at the elite level pretty much all throughout that time winning everything thing there is to win in his opponent's backyards or on road and running a murderer's row of KO artists and punchers

Dubois loses to Usyk and then stops AJ, Hrgovic and Miller in his next 3 fights becoming HW champion in the process, loses again to Usyk and then stops Fabio in his next fight thus becoming a 2 x HW champ and 3 of those stoppage wins were against the #2, #3 and #5 champs/contenders and the other one should really be ranked in the top 10 now. Who have Moses, Torrez and Huni beaten to warrant a ranking over Miller?

He didn't though. As mandatory challenger he wasn't obligated to agree to a rematch clause with Joshua. Dubois was also not forced on him.

By that logic the same could hold true for 3rd or 4th wins as well. Usyk could just go in rematching the same guys

I honestly can’t stand whenever a big win is seen as something that “counts” for the guy that had beaten that fighter prior as if it’s a win to them by default. The whole “his resume just keeps looking better” mentality is annoying and just an excuse to big up their favorite fighter even though they weren’t the ones in that fight. The same was happening every time Canelo won where people were using his wins to credit Mayweather. Dubois was the one to beat Wardley and gets all the credit for that win, not Usyk.

Yeah but then AJ and Hearn threatened to vacate, leaving Uysk with a potentially small purse for his next fight

    Context is key

No, it really can't. The point is that there has to be a rematch for there to be a great series. It's not Usyk's fault that he is so great no one can pull that off.
