Don’t use it, move on to someone else.

This modern obsession with immediate rematches is kind of weird. Historically, if you lost to a guy you took your time before getting back in the ring with them. Gives you time to work on some things against lesser fighters. Gives them time to potentially take some more damage against other guys.

The only time an immediate rematch is ever warranted IMHO is when a guy who was clearly favored gets caught or if there were some other shenanigans like a clearly awful stoppage, etc. A good example would be Lennox's loss to Rahman. Lewis was fine to immediately rematch Rock because he was obviously better and just didn't take the first fight seriously enough.

Even assuming he could get back to 100% within six months (he won't), what's he going to learn/add to his game to significantly alter the outcome? Outside of the two flash knockdowns, he basically did nothing to Diglett. Just straight got beat on.

And that price is gaining attention in the social media age.

When Kostya Tszyu was asked about a rematch after he finished Judah and unified the division he said (paraphrasing) "Do you remember before the fight he said winner takes all?" "That is my answer, winner takes all!"

He needs to take off at least 6 months before even starting training again. Warldey has taken serious beatings in his last 3 fights, and this was the worst one yet. He needs some serious time off and to let his brain fully heal.

I don’t think Fabio would want any part of that anymore. Someone that can both outbox and outgun you

Fabio should take at least 6 months and assess - I don't think he needs to retire necessarily, but he will need to have a good long look at balancing up his lack of fundamentals (especially head movement!) against how long his punch resistance and power will level the playing field. I'd guess the great thing about him coming from white collar roots and being a smart guy is that he will hopefully have invested his purses wisely and can really make that decision on his own terms.

I have no doubts that Wardley can still win fights and be competetive; the question is : At what cost to him and his family?

In no way should he take it. He's squeezed out every ounce of his ability in the ring and won a world title and made some good money. It's not inconceivable that he could win a rematch by landing something heavy on Dubois, but at what cost? He takes too much punishment and I just don't think it's worth it. He is very articulate and would make an excellent commentator, so there's definitely options for him outside the ring.

As a fan I'd love to see another go at it but I don't see the result being any different and I don't think Wardley needs more brain damage. Maybe in a few fights down the line (assuming Dubois holds his belt) I think it would be good as Wardley looked better in every fight (well up until this one where he had a somewhat static gameplan)

Now we'll see if Wardley wants to exercise the clause and face Dubois again. Fabio faced a superior fighter yesterday, who, after a not unexpectedly bad start (see the Lerena fight), punished him heavily. Wardley will make his valutation about the rematch, personally, I think if he wants to face Dubois again, he'll have to bring something new to the ring (and that's not easy to do), perhaps it might be a good idea to hire a new trainer. Let's see what happens, if Fabio decides not to exercise the clause I wouldn't be surprised at all.

That was one of those wars that will take something out of you.. even though it was a great fight I don't think it's one we should see again. It's up to him though & God bless him either way.

Totally agree. They put on a good fight. 21st century boxing fans are odd, they don't seem to enjoy the violence that is at the core of thos sport the way fans did when I started following 45 years ago.

Rematch with Parker makes sense now. Or Miller.

Was parker suspended for drugs? I recall he failed a test. If Fabio has become gun shy Parker may win.
