I don't think he should be fighting any more rematches (unless he were to lose). There are enough fights for him to take. DuBois winning is a good thing for him, but it could present more challenges as well. I think he was thinking as Wardley as a potential fight, but since he lost and no one really wants to see a 3rd fight with DuBois it may open the door for an Itauma fight given that Itauma will now be the mandatory for DuBois. If Itauma beats DuBois this would be a huge fight.

Celebrating Dubois' victory over Wardley as if it was Usyk who was in the ring with him just doesn't make sense. This is Dubois' shining moment and his alone. If Dubois ends up fighting Kabayel and manages to beat him as well that would be HIS victory and his resume that keeps improving.

That's like crediting Junior Jones for every big victories that Marco Antonio Barrera would end up achieving when he beat Erik Morales twice, Naseem Hamed, and Johnny Tapia. Or crediting Jermain Taylor for Bernard Hopkins' wins over Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik, Jean Pascal, RJJ. It doesn't work that way.

It's not hard to understand at all. Fighters are judged by the QUALITY of who they beat. Dubois has now become one of the rare one to regain the championship. It's not hard to understand, and it's not really debatable.

Yes regaining it because Usyk dropped his belt again. Dubois win is very good for Usyk but Usyk is the one who dropped the belt for no reason

It's is. People looking from the future will not hear your criticisms. They will only see that he fought the best in good series and never lost.

    And?

That is better than 8-9 guys getting a belt Holmes never unified in the first place.

Usyk accepted an extremely small purse in the first fight with Dubois as champ though. So that seems like a weak argument.

Okay so then why can't a third fight with Fury be justified if someone believes he's better than the alternatives?

It would also still be lucrative

Usyk dropped the belt for no reason tho, he had no fights scheduled and was several months off his Dubois rematch, so it wouldn't be any different than contenders fighting for a vacant. That's literally what Usyk did, he dropped his belt and it became vacant for dubois and aj to fight over. The second time Usyk dropped it again and Wardley automatically became champion.

Since it's Usyk intentionally dropping belts instead of retiring or defending them against the mandatories it's almost like stat padding. Tim Witherspoon has a more legitimate claim to 2x champion than Dubois because of the intentional stat padding.

Usyks win over Dubois has aged well that cannot be debated, but Usyk didn't fight Wardley or Parker

If it was genuinely believed that he was better than the alternatives, it would be. Just like Walcott and Charles fought four times. But the bar gets a lot higher if it is 2-0, and there are a lot of alternatives out there now.

    Says you.

I mean, you got it right in the first half of the last sentence...

"Usyks win (should be plural, SIC) over Dubois has aged well that cannot be debated..."

    Correct.

Well obviously they won't hear my criticisms, but equally they won't hear you praises either.

I guess they'll see Wilder as an ATG, having a 5 year reign as WBC champion with some of the highest consecutive title defenses in history with that logic as well. Or that Usyk only fought a small handful of fighters in his era and dropped belts rather than defend them. Either way, we're talking about the present today, not what people will see in the future.

It's odd that you're defending Usyk for fighting so infrequently and praising him for beating guys he already outclassed rather than firing up the heavyweight landscape by taking on all comers.

Dubois became a mandatory via the WBA secondary belt
No rematch was involved in the contract so there was no need to over pay a challenger

Uysk reportedly earned 6 million for that fight

Look at his previous earnings and please explain how 6 million is a small purse?

So I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion it's a weak argument

In fact I don't see how it's even relevant

The point made was if AJ did drop a belt and not take the Uysk fight, the money on offer to fight whoever the ORGs deemed the number 2 would have not been that good in comparison to the money presented to fight AJ not just once but twice
    Thats a fact

Should I care about this Usyk-Verhoeven fight? In other words, should I pony up $60 (or find a NYC bar that's carrying it .. an increasingly rare phenomenon since UFC fans dominate here...)? Does Verhoeven have even the remotest puncher's chance to make it interesting?

I realize it's got a fair undercard. On that point, do we think Torrez, Jr., is ready for Sanchez?
