Daniel Dubois vs Frank Bruno

They seem like similar fighters to me. How do their skills compare, Who fought tougher opposition and made a better account of themselves in those fights, and who would win in a match most of the time?

 

I would say that Dubois has already surpassed Bruno, and he may have more big wins in him yet.

 

Bruno knock him out.Dubois not Tyson and not Lewis.

 

Dubois already has more wins over ranked contenders, though Tyson aside, Bruno was more impressive in their respective defeats.

 

Frank had a big problem with his chin and its not his fault.
Joshua vs Dubois basically shows how that fight would have went minus Bruno recklessly running up getting countered

 

Dubois has a slightly better looking resume but there was a greater level of talent in Bruno's day, and he was facing the likes of Witherspoon, Tyson, and Lewis.

I'm not sure Dubois' title grabs necessarily make him better than Bruno.

 

I think what needs to be said aswell is that Dubois hasn't actually beaten what i perceive as a legit belt holder.

Dubois/Joshua was for a vacant title that Usyk vacated.

Wardley was automatically made a champion due to Usyk again vacating a belt.

So neither of those fights were against legit belt holders IMO.

I mean ok this has happened in the past aswell where for example Lewis was automatically made champion after Bowe ducked him.

But Lewis actually proved his worth becoming the best Heavyweight of his era.

And right now Usyk is the only real legit Heavyweight champion IMO. So unless you're beating him I don't think the vacant belts Dubois is winning holds that much weight IMO.

 

It doesn't. Dubois wouldn't be in the top ten during that era.

 

I actually quite like Dubois for having a go and not giving up after his setbacks.
But, when Usyk and Fury finally retire (along with the rest of the old guard), and the fresher guys in the top-ten get more attention, I think Daniel is going to struggle.

 

TBH I have written him off a few times aswell so he deserves credit for not giving up.

Dubois also doesn't shy away from any challenge.

Which in this day and age of notable Heavyweights being very inactive and not fighting each other is commendable.

As for the future Heavyweights I think Dubois is going to have alot of problems vs Itauma.

Historically Dubois hasn't done well vs southpaws.

And as we know it's hard for an orthodox fighter to land the jab vs a good southpaw so that takes away one of Dubois's best assets.

So if Itauma isn't packing glass in his chin I would favour him over Dubois in all honesty.

I'd also have my doubts backing him against Kabayel. And Torrez could be interesting.

 

The point should be made that both Joshua and Wardley held a very high ranking when Dubois beat them.

In that respect I have no problem calling him an alphabet champion.

 

Joshua didn't have a high ranking from beating any real notable top 10 Heavyweights though.

His only win over a ranked contender in his recent fights was Wallin who was barely top 10 being rated exactly at number 10.

So on name value maybe but on recent form I don't think so.

Wardley has a better case because he beat a top 3 rated Heavyweight in Parker.

So maybe the Wardley fight more so than the Joshua fight for me.

 

Dubois deserves a lot of credit for getting back on the horse after a couple of bad losses. However , he's not that talented. If Wardley had displayed an ounce of boxing ability he'd have ko'ed him inside 3 rounds. Now ,,,,Bruno throws a far better straight right than Wardley ,I see him ko'ing Dubois

 

Frank either knocks him out early or gets tired and ends up getting stopped.
