Usyk dropped the belt, sure. But Dubios did beat a guy Usyk deliberately avoided to win it.

Usyk lost the right to be called champion of those belts the moment he dropped them. He's still the best in the division for now, but how long are people going to continue giving him a pass when he's not fighting the fights he needs to take?

Considering Usyk avoided both Parker and Wardley first, wouldn't that by extension make Dubios the "real champion"? Kabayel hasn't really done anything of note since beating Zhang and appears to just be sitting on a title shot.

Was Paul Butler a real champion?

Was Julius Indongo a real champ?

    Answer.

If you want to debate about something entirely different in regards to Crawford & Inoue go make a thread about it.

You've offered nothing of substance to this actual thread instead of making baseless accusations about me apparently discrediting Usyk.

When in fact if anything the thread is a compliment to Usyk.

No, he's a champion. Usyk is the best fighter in the division though until further notice.

Would you say Nakatani is not a champion using the same metric? Usyk is obviously the King, but I'd also argue that champions don't defend their belt against kickboxers who have records of 1-0, either.

I just think you need context.

Calling Dubois for example a 2 time Heavyweight champion for fighting for vacant belts from the fighter who destroyed him twice.

Common sense tells you that in reality right now Usyk is the only real legit champion at Heavyweight in my eyes.

I think people are misunderstanding the point of this thread.

This isn't to discredit Usyk or Dubois.

Usyk deserves credit for beating a dangerous puncher in Dubois easily.

And Dubois deserves credit for rebounding from his losses.

But I find it hard to legitimise Dubois's claim of being a legit belt holder is my point.

Yes. While I don't like the Verhoeven defence, he did defend against the nr 1 contender, Dubois, less than a year ago. And conclusively beat him. We're not talking Foreman's second reign of years of defences against unworthy challengers and not rematching after controversial decisions.

Or Dempsey taking 3 years between defenses
    Or other several examples.
