I felt Carl Williams won a close fight over Tim. Conversely I felt Tim beat Mercer in another close one.

I just saw the fight against Carl for the first time, in my opinion Carl clearly won 116 112 taking a clear advantage after the sixth round when a past prime Tim started to look tired.
It's a shame because if Carl had been declared the winner, in my opinion this fight should have put him on the doorstep of a title fight again, but the opposite happened, his career fell into decline.

    Round
    1 Carl
    2 Tim
    3 Carl
    4 Tim
    5 Tim
    6 Carl
    7 Carl
    8 Carl
    9 Carl
    10 Carl
    11 Tim
    12 Carl

Why didn't you add the fights against Larry Alexander and Jose Ribalta? Both were before the fight against the truth Williams.

Boxrec is a lot better lol, He also has a majority decision against a young Elieser Castillo but it was one of his last fights.

    @dmt I thought I'd bump this as I recently watched Witherspoon/Ribalta.

Trust me this was not a close fight at all the MD was totally bogus.

The commentators had it a shut out for Witherspoon.

I had it the same as 1 judge 98-91.

The judge who scored it 95-95 wasn't watching the fight trust me.

Witherspoon won this hands down not even remotely close he walked down Ribalta and bullied him all night long.

So all in all I think Witberspoon clearly beat M.Williams, Page, Tubbs, Ribalta, without any controversy what so ever.

I had Witherspoon beating Page 116-112.

I had Witherspoon beating Tubbs something like 145-140.

    I had Witherspoon beating M.Williams 97-94.

Snipes & C.Williams were definitely close fights though that were highly debatable but I've never actually scored them RBR.

    1 Witherspoon
    2 Witherspoon
    3 Witherspoon
    4 Witherspoon
    5 Even missing round
    6 Witherspoon
    7 Witherspoon
    8 Ribalta
    9 Witherspoon
    10 Witherspoon

    98-91 Witherspoon

Cheers. This makes sense. I have always been perplexed by the amount of close decisions on Witherspoons record. This clears it up. I need to watch these fights myself. But you are a good scorer so I think our scorecards will be similar.

Another thing that needs mentioning is how avoided Spoon was in the 90s despite his inconsistent form.

not saying he was ducked but I wonder why Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe never fought him. Weird

It probably had to do with Witherspoon's sour relationship with Don King.

After Witherspoon partied ways with King after that bad loss to Bonecrusher.

Witherspoon filed a 25 million dollar lawsuit against King which was settled out of court and Witherspoon received 1 million dollars.

But IMO I think Witherspoon would've got blackballed by King from any big championship fights after the sour end to their business relationship.

True. Though Lewis fought under King as far as I can remember.

but yes King is a horrible creature. He hurt Spoon unfairly. And Spoon was a high risk low reward fight so the likes of Lewis, Foreman and old Larry probably said hell no.

Lewis was under Panix Promotions in the UK/Europe, and Main Events in the US.

He actively avoided King as far as it was possible.

@dmt this is the last of me scoring Witherspoon's controversial decisions. This pretty much closes the chapter on this bit of history that you were interested in.

Just to say i think Witherspoon was a bit fortunate against Carl Williams i thought a draw or a close Williams win was the correct decision. I can't see much case for Witherspoon deserving the win in all honesty.

And finally as for Snipes i think a draw or a close Witherspoon win was the correct decision.

    Tim Witherspoon vs Carl Williams

    1 Witherspoon
    2 Witherspoon
    3 Witherspoon
    4 Witherspoon
    5 Williams
    6 Williams
    7 Williams
    8 Williams
    9 Williams
    10 Williams
    11 Witherspoon
    12 Witherspoon

    114-114 Draw

I thought Witherspoon did a good job early on of bullying Williams and hurting him numerous times.

But then after the 4th round Williams started to control the fight tying up Witherspoon anytime he got close and picked him off at range with the jab.

Witherspoon was also rocked in the 8th round the only time he was visibly hurt in the right.

I couldn't really see a round to give Witherspoon between 6-10.

But i thought Witherspoon finished the stronger of the two to salvage a draw.

I think there is a stronger case for Williams winning the fight and I can't see 7 rounds for Witherspoon personally.

But I thought a draw would've been reasonable or Williams deserving to win a close fight.

    Tim Witherspoon vs Renaldo Snipes

    1 Snipes
    2 Witherspoon
    3 Witherspoon
    4 Witherspoon
    5 Witherspoon
    6 Snipes
    7 Snipes
    8 Witherspoon
    9 Snipes
    10 Snipes

    95-95 Draw

I think this is probably one of the most legit draws you will ever see honestly.

Witherspoon was the aggressor in the first 5 rounds winning pretty much every round in the 1st half of the fight with effective aggression and landing the harder punches.

Snipes didn't a whole lot in the first 5 rounds just constantly moving around the ring and flicking out an ineffective left jab.

The 2nd half however the momentum of the fight totally turned around.

Now it was Snipes being the aggressor outhustling Witherspoon who looked a bit tired.

I thought Snipes won most of the rounds in the 2nd half of the fight by being the aggressor and throwing many more punches than Witherspoon.

There's 2 debatable rounds in this fight IMO the 1st and the 8th round.

1st round Witherspoon was the aggressor but he didn't land a whole lot and I thought Snipes nicked that round with left jab.

8th round Snipes landed a few more punches but Witherspoon landed the far more effective punches of the round.

Overall it become quite a fun fight down the stretch and I thought a draw would've been pretty fair but I have no issues with Witherspoon just about nicking the decision.
