Who could beat Loma if any - Shakur? Navarette? Davis? Oscar Valdez? Garcia?

I don't think current Loma even beats Raymond Muratalla, let alone all the guys listed above. He's 38 years-old, coming off a long layoff, and is small for the weight. I don't really think he should have come back from retirement.

This conversation is making me sound like a Loma hater, and that couldn’t be further from the truth in reality. But, I don’t believe it was the reason he “couldn’t” throw punches, as he was throwing absolutely loads in the second half of the fight.

If the surgery was 2 days after the fight and the injury was affecting him noticeably, why not postpone the fight? There was no point in risking making the tear any worse either if the procedure was booked. Such a postponement wouldn’t have been catastrophic as Loma was back out against Nakatani 8 months later. That’s fairly active even for an uninjured top fighter by all accounts these days.

I think it was a nagging injury that has conveniently allowed some doubt to be cast over Loma’s game plan being flawed. I like Bivol’s philosophy here - “I don’t have any explanation, because it could sound like excuses”. Loma chose to fight, therefore in my book, the shoulder isn’t relevant. If it was really that consequential, he wouldn’t have fought.
