Dubois is not a champion he's still a contender

Honestly, he did Wardley a solid. Allowed his fight with Parker to be for a belt which elevated Wardley to champ and got him a nice payday versus Dubois. It also allowed Wardley to prove himself against a much more beatable fighter and establish himself with the belt. Imagine how big the fight between Usyk and Wardley would have been if Wardley had KO'd Diglett. And Usyk even flat out said he'd fight the winner and that he wanted Wardley to win. Wardley failed, obviously, but that's beside the point.

Really though, besides some self-righteous little toads on forums like these, nobody cares. The only fights the boxing public want to see Usyk in are against Itauma, a young completely unproven guy, or Benevidez, a six foot tall, flat footed fat kid who just got to cruiserweight yesterday. That's how little they think of the rest of the division.

And of course this isn't even getting into how absurd and corrupt the rankings/mandatories are anyway. Before Fury came back and Mauricio tripped over himself to rank him #1, Okolie was #1 with the WBC. Would anyone think Usyk was ducking Okolie if he decided to drop the WBC belt and go fight Kabayel or Itauma or whomever? Obviously not because Okolie sucks and has no business being ranked that highly except for the fact that he's a British Frank Warren fighter. Luckily for all of us the idiot popped hot so we don't have to be tortured with watching him box anymore. But the orgs didn't care. They just took their brown envelope and ranked him #1.

Usyk sits alone atop Mt. Olympus. Anyone worthwhile has been slain and tossed over the side. Now it's all dudes who really need to prove themselves with some serious fights so people will give a damn about their shot at the mountaintop.

He collected them because that s what it took to win the real true championship.
Until he losses or retires he is the champ. All other fighters are contenders if they are ranked regardless of what baubles they have.

To be fair Okolie got his ranking via the loophole that is Bridgerweight
    Everything else is spot on

Is that right? Honestly, that just further proves how stupid the entire system is. No one should ever be given anything for competing at Bridgerweight. Except maybe a slap.

Yeah the WBC have a ruling that if you step up to HW you get such a ranking
If was smart by Okolie as he was getting nowhere otherwise

Now if only he was as savvy when it came to his meds the twit

How are they (not including Fury, AJ and Dubios) supposed to elevate from being contenders when Usyk won't fight them?

I value the lineal title as much as the next man, but you've got a kickboxer fighting for it next ffs.

    That s a valid point.
And the situation gets a little murky here and there but unless Usyk goes on a really long period where he dodges the top contenders there aint much to be done.
It has always happened along history.
Dmpsey never gave Wills a shot and he was his no 1 contender for a very long time.Dempsey wasnt stripped of the title.

How long would be too long for you? Given he tends to only fight once a year on average, we could be looking at a two year gap since Dubios before he fights a contender next.

And regardless if this has happened before, it doesn't make it any more acceptable.

Well it doesnt matter for me does it?I think the TBRB have established a well thought of period,I believe the Ring have some sort of policy aswell.
It s something like a top 5 guy in 12 months or top 10 guy in 18 months -something like that.I think that fair and Usyk is well in that period.
The Verhoeven fight is a gimmick but I dont think it will go beyond that.

You're still allowed an opinion though, was just curious.

And yes, hopefully it's a one off.
