When you knew a fighter would lose against the underdog

I remember when I mentioned to a friend of mine whilst I was paying him for my shopping when he was at work that the first AJ v Usyk fight was on that night, and knowing he was a betting man, I told him Usyk on points was an intelligent bet.

He got odds at 5-1 and stuck a tenner on. At midnight, I get a message from him with his betting slip screenshotted and he said: “if you told me tomorrow that cheese was going to be the next big thing, I’d quit my job and start hustling crackers”.

That one felt good.

 

Dubois vs. AJ. Daniel's form in his three fight run before the fight and his attributes just gave me this "dude is all wrong for Joshua" feeling.

 

I remember hearing McNeeley say he was going to "trap him in a cocoon of horror"...and I just started laughing.

It's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

 

I know this sounds strange today but yes,,,Davey Moore was favored to beat Roberto Duran, after hearing from some knowledgeable people who told me Duran had his mojo back I knew Duran would win

 

I was a somewhat early Kabayel supporter. First learned of him after he beat Makhmudov. Picked him over both Sanchez and Zhang.

I picked Pavlik to stop Taylor.

 

Same here. I always thought Tito was an overstuffed welterweight. BHop was too big.

 

I've said this before, but I will restate. In those years the local badass was a dude called Charlie Weir. He was a combination punching KO machine and went up against Moore who was kinda green iirc. Most people thought Charlie would run right through him and instead the Silver Assassin got knocked out by Moore in 5 I think it was. That alone told me Moore was a quality fighter. He was favoured over Duran for reasons. Duran packed his fudge in so hard that people forget nowadays how good Moore was.

 

I picked Roach to beat Tank because of how deflated and out-of-it Tank seemed in interviews compared to Roach's confidence. I know it was a draw but I still felt proud of myself.

Can't remember if Navarrete was the favourite to beat Nunez but I remember how most folks on the forum were picking Nunez and I just never saw it.

 

My underdog picks of 2026:
Dubois vs Wardley
Navarrete vs Nunez
Muratalla vs Cruz

None of these were crazy, but it shows a consistent pattern. When a fight is perceived to be 50/50 match, normally the more experienced boxer at the championship level will win. I was 90% percent sure Wardley and Nunez would lose, though.

 

So obviously Tyson was not the underdog, I saw "when you knew a fighter would lose" and a popup ad was covering the rest lol

 

Who was the favorite going into Lewis-Tyson? Surely Lewis.
