Daniel Dubois vs Joe Louis

Tougher for Louis than some people may think IMO as DD is big athletic and can hit very hard which is a combination that was rarer in Louis's era IMO.

 

DD is big and strong but has no ability to stop any of the pinpoint Louis bombs coming his way in rapid fire combinations. Fight would not go two rounds.

 

Just know this, if Louis was in there instead of Wardley when Dubois was knocked down, DDD wouldn't have survived the next 10 seconds of that round.

 

No offence Dynamic but I never understand why people do this. All the people you listed are so **** compared to the top brass of SHW's today that it's a moot point.

Funnily enough both Simon's and Carnera are a testament to how awful SHW's used to be. They both had a pituitary gland disorder called acromegaly, which outside of making you larger actually makes you a worse athlete. Reduces force production, cardiovascular endurance, increases the brittleness of your bones, gives you arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

The fact that the talent pool for SHW's was so small that the prerequisite was to have a genetic condition that makes you **** is not the flex people think it is.

This heavyweight pre 1960 can beat modern SHW's? How do I know? Well, they beat SHW's who were only SHW's because they were physically ill, and so ill they died of natural causes 20-30 years earlier than expected even relative to the time period...

So OF course he'd beat Daniel Dubois

 

For example i don't see how someone like Wardley is anymore skillful than the Super Heavyweights of that era.

He had a late start to boxing coming from White Collar boxing.

He has alot of heart and a good chin.

But he's crude, telegraph's his right hand, has no real upper echelon skills.

But he still floored Dubois twice and if could set up a right at all I'm sure he would've finished off Dubois.

Dubois himself is stiff with no head movement.

Yes he has a good jab and some decent skills.

But these are not IMO upper echelon Super Heavyweights in regards to skill.

I don't see why Louis could not stop Dubois.

Joe Louis could definitely stop Dubois. If Usyk could do it then Joe could do it, but it's the one sidedness of these discussion that annoys me. You've highlighted the issues I have with the logic regarding old school heavyweights vs modern super heavyweights. I typed up a large reply about this but it's not even directed at you so wouldn't make sense to reply to you with my schizophrenic rant lol, I'll leave that for a separate post.

Can you just imagine that great corner of Louis probing holes in DDD? I see a ton of flaws and openings. What would blackburn & Seamon see? And that is one huge gap between corners in this matchup. Just how often does the inferior corner come up with a W against the greats anyway?

 

The thing is, I'd normally think threads like these were having fun, being silly. Now, I don't know. A guy that large who can hit is always dangerous, but for his size, he also has a mediocre chin and mediocre defense. A big lug carrying an also-ran title with p4p mediocre chin and defense against Joe Louis, arguably the most dangerous heavyweight champion in history, due to his combination of quick combination punching skill, finishing ability and temperament and two-fisted power. Like, why? Why is is this exist for us 2 base R belong 2 us?

 

David Tua and Razor Ruddock have more chance to beat Joe Louis than Dubois. The Lewis version of Shannon Briggs has a higher chance than Dubois, and that isn't a particularly decent chance itself. It's a sinfully indecent chance, really.

Louis would have been a huge favourite.

Even as a Louis fan, this would become uncomfortable viewing, if it did indeed reach the third round.
