Navarrete needed 2 knockdowns to get a gift draw against Conceicao, LMAO. Even a 38 year old Loma is still good enough to beat Navarrete. And Navarrete is lazy when it comes to his diet, he would bloat up again if he gave Lightweight another go.
I was at one point sure he would end up fighting at Welterweight. He moved through the weight-classes with such ease, that I did not see him stopping any time soon. And out of nowhere he looked like Seaweed Diet Josesito Lopez, when he challenged Berinchyk for the vacant WBO Lightweight belt.
Just because Navarrete isn’t a perfect fighter doesn’t mean Loma is not going to get his skull cracked. But asking a 38 year old with two years of inactivity to beat the current number one at super featherweight is almost impossible. Loma was already showing noticeable decline as his career went on, so imagine what two years of inactivity does on top of that.
I guess we will find out in due time, because if Loma wants big fights then he is going to have to fight some top level talent.
Loma had better precede very carefully, as others have pointed out he was showing signs of slipping when he retired and that's natural when past the age of 36 and more so at these lighter weights. Even though I haven't seen Loma at this age I still think he can outbox Navarette but this is the kind of fight that historically can blow up in the older fighters face and a Navarette win would not be totally shocking . On the other hand Loma had better forget about Shakur Stevenson . He'd get humbled
Navarette will lose for sure. His time is finished as champ. He might retain his title next up but that's going to end by either Loma or Jackson England.
