I generally would agree with this, but when it comes to the current heavyweight scene; its literally nothing but rematches. Hell, it looks like Dubois and Wardley are going to have a rematch too.
At this point, well, actually for a while now, all of these rematches have been holding the division back.

 

Yes, but... Usyk is the best heavy of the post-Klit era. He has beaten the #2, #3, and #4, no matter how you rank them, twice each.

There is no one else that it would have been better to beat. Sure, either Parker or Wardley would have been better than Rico Van, but in the time frame we are talking about, beating Zhang, Hrgovic, Joyce etc instead would be a huge step backwards on his resume.

 

I think if modern boxers fought more often in a year, bad fights like these would be slightly more forgivable.

 

Unless you are Canelo, for some reason a lot of people were extremely upset over him fighting Yildrim.

 

Well to be completely honest with you I haven't been paying attention to modern boxing as much as I probably should so I don't have the full context there. I imagine it has more to do with the surrounding baggage that is Canelo than the individual fight itself but that is just an educated guess.

 

It absolutely was about Canelo, and his antics at the time. I personally loved the fact that he fought Smith in December, Yildrim in February, and Saunders in May.
I wish he had taken such stay busy fights afterwards too, and I wish other boxers would follow suit.

I agree with you, and I doubt no one would care about Uysk´s next fight all that much, if he had a legitimate title fight set up shortly afterwards, or he had just had one.

 

Totally. And all rematches involve british fighters.
