Greater/Better fighter: Joe Calzaghe, Aaron Pryor, or Jung Koo Chang

3 fighters known for their highly aggressive, fast, unorthodox swarming style, suffocating pressure, crazy work rate and endless stamina where they threw punches from different angles. Besides being relentless fighters they were also very capable of being tricky boxers as well. All 3 are considered as one of, if not the very best, fighters of their respective division, although Calzaghe would have his last two fights at 175.

Out of the 3 who has the best resume and who would you say is the better H2H fighter skill wise given their unique fighting style?

Aaron Pryor (140): WBA & The Ring Magazine champ, beaten Alexis Arguello, Antonio Cervantes, Alfonso Frazer, Lennox Blackmoore, Gaetan Hart, Kim Sang Hyunh

Jung Koo Chang (108) : WBC champ, 15 title defenses, beaten Hilario Zapata, Sot Chitalada, Katsuo Tokashiki, German Torres, Hideyuki Ohashi

I don't know anything about Jung Koo Chang really.

But I'd rate Calzaghe above Pryor who I think is overrated.

A tainted win over an Alexis Arguello moving up in a weight.

And beating a past it Antonio Cervantes.

Other than that there's not much else on his resume of really any substance.

Ok Calzaghe's opposition was far from great granted. But I think the quantity he has aswell as winning world titles in 2 weightclasses gives him the edge for me.

Not to mention being undefeated aswell.

Is my list just because of Calzaghe's number of wins surpassing the others in my opinion though its close.

In terms of H2H I would say this:

If there were ever fighters that comes closest to how people would envision Harry Greb it would probably be these 3 fighters IMO.

Greb, also nicknamed "The Pittsburgh Windmill," defied conventional boxing rules. He was highly aggressive and combined incredible stamina with dirty tactics like spinning his opponents. Instead of relying on a single one-punch knockout, he overwhelmed opponents by attacking at odd angles and jumping in and out of the pocket.

This quote describing Harry Greb most certainly fits with Calzaghe, Pryor, and Chang as well.

 

Also valid. How would you rank them H2H out of curiosity?

 

Jung Koo Chang without his financial problems and his ruined divorce, he would have retired undefeated at 108 lbs in 1988; he was invincible in that weight class. Then he came back to boxing with these money problems, having gained weight, and not being mentally there, he was no longer training and despite this he pushed Muangchai Kittikasem and Sot Chitalada to their limits at 112 lbs.

 

Chang is the best and greatest of them imo. Id consider Calzaghe greater than Pryor but I'm not sure who of the two is better but I'm leaning towards Pryor.

All three have very, very underrated footwork and technical abilities imo, even tho they all look a little strange.

 

Neither Pryor nor Chang slapped and cuffed opponents faces in to swollen bloody messes.

But Calzaghe certainly did, and you guys praise him as if he were a god.

He wasn't.

 

It's very possible that Joe Calzaghe is H2H No.1 in the super middleweight division. We will never know if that statement is incorrect.

 

Assuming you mean H2H, on a p4p basis, possibly the same. Pryor would be 3, I think, Calzaghe and Chang very difficult to split.

Chang the best of the bunch by a fair distance imo. Hilario Zapata is the best win among the three of them, and his overall depth of resume combined with his dominance over the division make him both the greatest and best of the trio.

 

I've given it some thought and I think I might have to change my ranking of these three to look like this:
