Did the "fan man" help Holyfield in his rematch with Bowe?

Is "fan man" indirectly responsible for Riddick Bowe's only loss in his professional boxing career?

 

The Fan man incident likely disrupted Bowe more than Holyfield and it had to effect the rhythm of the fight but it's hard to say it caused the result on it's own.
Holyfield still fought an excellent tactical fight after and deserved the decision.

 

I feel that too,Fergy. Holyfield maintained his concentration and Bowe did n't. If Riddick had been in the same condition and mindset of their first fight then I think he'd have won again.

 

I believe it is largely Bowe's fault. Back then, in the nineties, every good coach would try to train you for fan-person landings at any point in the action, so that you would stay warmed up until action resumed from the staff beating. Each conditioning session involved a special stopwatch timer that was randomly selected for a forced cooldown for you to practice staying warmed up during the cooldown. If Bowe was not training properly, as Holyfield likely was, then that is on him, I'm sorry.

 

From memory, Holyfield was coming on strong in the mid rounds, so likely either had no impact or slight benefit to Bowe.

That said, long time since I've seen the fight. In the absence though of either fighter being saved from serious trouble by the interruption, sensible to take the view that it was the same for both fighters and not an advantage for either.

 

I've scored the fight for Bowe every time I've watched it so no impact IMO

 

Bowe also outlanded Holyfield by 100 punches I think.

 

To be fair Bowe's pregnant wife fainted at ringside during the fan man incident and had to be taken to hospital.

So it's pretty hard to maintain 100 percent concentration after that Bowe had more mentally to deal with than Holyfield.

As for the thread yes the fan man may of done Holyfield a favour.

Bowe won the first 3 rounds.

Holyfield then won the next 3 rounds.

But then Bowe seemed to be regaining control of the fight in the 7th round when the fan man interrupted the fight.

 

He did but that stat can also be a bit misleading.

Bowe had a big edge over Holyfield in punches landed in early rounds.

And then the stats started to even out a bit more.

Bowe certainly threw and landed more punches but I felt Holyfield landed the more eye catching punches.

I had Holyfield winning by a single point.

considering how out of shape Bowe was, I think it helped Bowe more as he was overweigiht.
And I dont know if he knew his wife was taken to the hospital in the ring

 

But it's the same for Holyfield against Tyson.Back in the 90 s every good coach would bite their fighters ears to get them prepared for such an event.
Unfortunately every time Holyfield s trainer tried to bite his ear a little, Evander would just laugh and giggle and trying tickling the coach.
So thus when it finally happened....well Holyfield hadn't really prepared of course..so he took it badly.
After that Holyfield had every single coach and all his sparring partners take a good bite down on the old lug s.
It made him a better man.

 

Do punches after the bell for the end of the round also count; on several occasions?

Yeah, but Bowe more than proved his supremacy as a training slouch, when he failed to undertake the requisite 'punch in the goolies' workouts, in preparation for Golota.
