Yes but Holyfield won the next 3 rounds which evened the fight up.

The 7th round was scored even due to interruption.

Holyfield then started faster after the fight restarted and won more rounds overall in the 2nd half of the fight.

There's no way you can tell me Bowe won 4 clear rounds after 6th round.

I can see a draw for Bowe definitely but I can't see 7 rounds.

Finally as for the stats as I've already said Bowe won his rounds with a bigger punches landed gap.

But that doesn't mean he won more rounds overall in the fight.

And there's one important stat that you're missing which is Holyfield landed 53 percent of his power punches compared to 42 percent for Bowe.

Landing over half of your power punches is certainly going to catch the eye of the judges.

This seems to me like you think the "fan man" helped Holyfield in some way. I'm really interested - what do you think?

Yes I think it helped Holyfield. Bowe seemed to regain the upperhand after losing the 5th and 6th rounds, but his rythm wa disrupted after that.
Of course, Holyfield still deserves credit but it was a razor close fight that could have easily been a draw.

First, Bowe didn't have to win "four" rounds over the last nine to retain the title. He had to win THREE to retain the title.

Bowe was the champion. A tie is a successful title defense.

And only one judge scored the seventh round even. One judge also gave it to Bowe. Another gave it to Evander.

Second, Bowe threw 786 punches and landed 45 percent. Evander threw 514 and landed 49 percent. Bowe threw and landed FAR MORE punches than his challenger.

Throwing more AND landing more is supposed to catch the eyes of the judges.

But, like I said, Bowe and Newman made a ton of enemies while he was champ, and the judges seemed to award the challenger rounds when the rounds were close.

    It was a bad decision.

In boxing history, I challenge you to find another fight where the defending heavyweight champion landed 100 more punches than the challenger (and threw 250+ more punches than the challenger), the champion never went down, and the champion still lost his title via decision?

It has only happened once, as far as I know. And it was that fight.

Hell, there are 12-round title fights NOW where only 100 punches TOTAL are landed by the winner ... and Bowe landed that many MORE than his challenger Evander did.

Bowe should've had a clean sweep in that series.

Yes i'm aware of that and i've already stated i can see an argument for Bowe getting a draw. But i don't see an argument for Bowe winning more than 3 rounds in the 2nd half of the fight.

Suggesting Bowe may of deserved a draw and stating it's a bad decision that Bowe deserved to win are two different things the latter i don't agree with.

So neither fighter had biased scoring in the most debatable round of the fight is what you're saying ?

Yes and Holyfield according to the stats landed over half of his power punches which is a major scoring criteria in favour of Holyfield.

That's more of an amateur style of scoring a fight.

Professional judging is more about clean effective punching rather than just the quantity of punches.

And Holyfield according to the stats landed at a considerably higher rate in power punches landed and that's why he won the fight.

This just a baseless opinion/accusation with no evidence to back it up.

All 3 judges had the fight close and there was discrepancy in the scorecards what so ever.

And yet you're the same guy that will defend Wilder's gift draw over Fury. Despite the huge discrepancy of 1 judge having it 115-111 for Wilder which no one else on planet earth had.

Which i would say is an obvious case of biased scoring.

Punchstats are not a scoring criteria for judging fights ? and they're not totally accurate anyway it's just a guy pushing a button on what he deems is a landed punch.

I don't know why you keep bringing it up.

Also punchstats have only been around since the 1980s ? There is like 100 years of undocumented Heavyweight title fights in regards to punchstats.

And this is just you cherry picking a point that really has no substance at all.

Bowe landed 100 more CLEAN EFFECTIVE PUNCHES than Evander did.

Bowe threw 250 MORE punches than Evander that were not deemed Clean and Effective. But he landed 100 more CLEAN and EFFECTIVE punches than Evander.

It was a bad decision. There's no way a heavyweight champion should've lost a fight like that on the cards.

He dictated the whole fight. Threw more. Landed more. Bowe didn't beat up Holyfield like he did in fight one, and nearly stop him, but Evander didn't beat up and nearly stop Bowe in the rematch, either.

Fights one and three were more brutal.

But the rematch has always bothered me. I watched it live that night with a house full of people. It was a shock that they handed him the belt afterward.

Wonderful performance by Evander, after being beaten so badly in the first fight he announced his retirement. But he didn't deserve the win in the rematch.

And Bowe and Newman making enemies while they had the title isn't a "BASELESS" accusation. It was common knowledge widely reported at the time. They were insufferable.

Are punchstats used for scoring a professional boxing fight yes or no ?

Yes it is a baseless opinion/accusation.

You probably weren't even alive then. Bowe and Newman were known for how insufferable they became when Bowe won the title. They ruled boxing for a year, and made enemies everywhere. It is common knowledge. Certainly then.

You just insisted judges look for clean punching and when I point out Bowe landed more clean punches, now you're saying landing clean punches isn't how fights are scored.

We all know how fights are scored. My point is when a heavyweight champion is throwing SO MANY MORE punches than the challenger, and LANDING SO MANY MORE PUNCHES than the challenger, and the champ never goes down ... he wins ... except that night.

Think of any other heavyweight title fight in boxing history, where the champ threw more and landed more CLEARLY, and he lost on points?

Bowe-Holyfield 2 is THE ONLY one.

It's actually very difficult to lose the heavyweight title on points, historically. Especially, as you pointed out, when the champ begins the fight with a clear three-round lead.

It's so FUNNY you brought this up.

Tyson Fury landed 13 more punches than Wilder after 12 rounds. That's it. 13 punches landed.

On the other hand, Wilder scored two knockdowns over Fury. Wilder also threw 100 more punches than Fury over 12 rounds.

So, Wilder was busier, Wilder scored two knockdowns, yet Fury landed 13 more clean punches.

I have no problem with Wilder retaining the title that night. It was close.

On the other hand, Riddick Bowe, the defending champion, landed 100 MORE punches than his challenger Holyfield. Not 13 punches. Bowe LANDED 100 MORE punches.

Almost 10 times more punches than Fury outlanded Wilder by. 100 more punches landed than Evander landed.

And Holyfield didn't knock Bowe down twice. Neither guy went down.

Also, Bowe threw 250 more punches than Evander. So Evander wasn't nearly as busy. Evander didn't land more, he didn't throw more, and he didn't score any knockdowns.

You think one guy landing 13 more punches in a 12-rounder (despite going down two times himself) should've won ... and turn around and say another guy who landed 100 more punches than his challenger and didn't go down was a clear loser.

I agree with this: "if you beat me, why were you on the floor twice?".

And again this is a baseless opinion/accusation.

There was no discrepancy in the judges scorecards.

No one thought it was a bad decision just a close fight that the majority felt Holyfield edged.

So there is nothing to suggest anyone was out to get Bowe or rob him of a decision.

You said Bowe threw and landed more punches and that's what the judges look for yes in amateur scoring they do.

Professional judging is more about the damage you're doing and the clean effective punches you're landing.

Holyfield landed at a considerably higher percentage in power punches landed which is why he won the fight.

I brought it up because you're harping on about Bowe getting shafted and people were out to get him. Even though there's no evidence to support that with the judges having very balanced scoring across the board.

However 1 judge had a huge discrepancy in his scoring with a scorecard of 115-111 for Wilder. Which is a horrendous scorecard that literally no one agrees with which shows a clear sign of bias.

Yet you will overlook that and claim it was fair when it clearly isn't and that's because you're the biggest Wilder fan let's be real.

But yet when there was no such discrepancy in the scoring of Bowe/Holyfield 2. You still conjure up an accusation that people were out to get Bowe just because you believe Bowe won the fight.

Pretty hard to win a decision when a judge has already made up their mind prior to the fight inexcusably scoring the fight 115-111 to Wilder.

Dubois was on the floor twice vs Wardley recently what were the scorecards for that fight at the time of stoppage ? Dubois would've won a wide decision had it gone to the cards.

I don't see what 2 knockdowns has to do with in regards to not being able to win a decision ? if you win most of the other rounds in a 12 round fight ?

And most people felt Fury won atleast 8 or 9 rounds and consider the decision a major gift for Wilder.

I don't know why you would ask this, Ikrasevic. Everybody knows that the lemming story is that it saved Holyfield.. but Bowe was cut and saved by the bell in the fifth round.

Holyfield was chillin, like a veteran, waiting for 2-3 more rounds after that (he already saw what he could do). I think Holyfield would have KOed Bowe by the ninth or tenth round, no later. But that Fan Man thing led to Holyfield having nasty back muscle spasms ( because he was the much older boxer). Saved Holyfield, hunh?

Hard luck champion Holyfield. Fan Man saved Bowe, contrary to the BS.

Fury beat him clearly despite two knockdowns, . Two knockdowns doesn't mean you automatically win the fight
