Povetkin beat Whyte but after getting dropped 2 or 3 times, and then got destroyed in the immediate rematch. He almost got KO'd by David Price too. Povetkin looked slower and had the shakes compared to his peak even if still a contender, also didn't have access to his meldonium anymore lol.

He retired immediately after the rematch because he knew it was over, he was done at world level

He got caught against Price but other than that win every moment
No shame in that as Price had a massive punch on him

The Whyte fight was definitely a case of him getting old over night
He'd fought Hunter before that however and looked solid

    That was it

But he was still doing well before the Whyte fight

That's a good series of names for Fury. You are also wrong, anyway. Chisora...Johnson...Pianeta....they contended for titles.

As for Joshua, rubbish. Wlad may have been 40, but he was a fight removed from the title. Povetkin had his best win against Whyte ahead of him. Of course they matter.

Hunter should've won lol totally forgot about that one.

I also didn't mention, Ruiz is only noteworthy on joshuas record because he beat joshua, his list of wins is inferior to an Oliver McCalls or a Hasim Rahman. He was getting totally outboxed by a fossilized Luis Ortiz and didn't have the power to finish him off when he scored KDs

It's really pretty obvious. The cult of Ring Magazine ratings is just bizarre.

So Klitschko had no belts, was 1.5 years inactive, 41 and joshua went life and death unlike Fury but this win is equal to dethroning a reigning champion ? Yeah ight bro. Chisora is not a top contender and he has about 20 losses. Chisora is equivalent to Bert Cooper or Alex Stewart, and almost nobody cites these names as top 10 wins on anyone's resume for good reason.

Kevin Johnson was a gatekeeper for the vast majority of his career. LOL at Pinnata.

The overwhelming consensus is that Fury has faced 3 guys who were among the top 10 heavyweights in the world when he faced them. There doesn't seem to be much dispute on that point with the general public.

If you don't like that I would be happy to hear your argument for Wallin or Makhmudov or whoever else being top 10

No, that is YOUR consensus with yourself. It is also not true. That is with your meaningless Ring ratings.

What did Simon and Garfunkel sing..."A man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest."

Yup! He was slowing down a bit but it was only when he caught Covid that he crashed.

Wlad still would have beat most of the guys in the top ten, and yes, Johnson and Pianeta contended for titles.

Bert Cooper and Alex Stewart are arguably among Foreman's top ten wins.

No it's the overwhelming consensus on this very site. And among boxing fans in general.

Also I don't know of any other opponents rated in the top 10 by the majority of sanctioning bodies

Bert Cooper and Alex Stewart are virtually never cited as impressive wins for Foreman. Somehow Foreman fans don't see them as big wins.

    I wonder why this is?

"An" is easy to accept. "The"? Nah. He hasn't enough fights and he fought in a weak era.

    Let's just delineate it.

WBC does not give access to archived ratings, but...

WladKlit- unified champ at the time Fury beat him
Deontay Wilder- WBC champ at the time Fury beat him, top contender the second time
Dillian Whyte- WBC interum champ at the time Fury beat him

So right there, the idea of "only three" is busted. That's four fights.

Chisora- twice a title contender. #3 by IBF and #1 by WBO at the time of the second fight.

    So there is 5!

Christian Hammer-Ranked #3 by IBF when Fury fought him

    So there is #6!

Additional- not ranked at time (minus WBC ratings)

Kingpin Johnson- WBC title contender, I believe he was a mandatory, so possibly ranked as high as #1 by the WBC at one time.

Cunningham- Former cruiser champ, ranked as high as 14 when Fury fought him, and #4 by the IBF in 2015

Makhmudov- was ranked as high as #3 by the WBC, though again, I can't say exactly when.

Pianeta- title shot when ranked #7 by tthe WBO. I've seen him ranked a high as 6 by the WBO in 2015

Pretty good start, and yes, it is apparent that if he adds Joshua to this, he'll step through the door.

Some of the guys you mentioned were not ranked by the majority of the sanctioning bodies though like Hammer who was only ranked by one organization.

Moreover it's a massive break with precedent to cite wins when the overwhelming fan consensus is that they were nowhere world class.

Do you or anyone on this site feel Hammer was top 10? Or even Hammer himself?
